Probably my Lithgow 223, accurate and versatile for most small to medium game. It would be hard to imagine life without a simple bolt action 22 though.
A good question ........mine would probably relate to calibre moreso than make or model.. If ONLY shooting game the size of fallow / goat and smaller then the 243 Win (firing 55-105 gr projectiles) would be my pick- and probably in a Howa M1500 with a McMillan stock .
If shooting game from fallow/ goats and bigger - then the 270 Winchester is my bag....and my Sako Finnlight firing 130 or 150 gr projectiles.
My beautiful BSA .222 that I bought it in 1975 by mail order from Mick Smiths gun shop in George St Sydney just after I left school when I was jackerooing near Cunnamulla Qld. I love it. Super accurate, barrel is still perfect and a great cartridge to reload
Just thinking about it makes me shudder at how many hours i have put into adjusting and tuning the rifles I have to get them feeling just right in the hand. If I had to choose, I would be keeping the AIA M10 in .308 that i have. In my opinion its a true hunters and outdoorsman's rifle, just has that solid and well balanced feel to it when its shouldered.
If its big and fast, I wanna know all about it Weatherby MkV - .220 Swift Remington Sendero - .300 RUM AIA M10B2 - .308 Win Musgrave - .308 Win Weatherby Vanguard - .223 Rem Remington 788 - .222 Rem Stirling 14 - .22 LR

Never thought of it that way, but you have a point!
