Well, I am sitting here and eating a huge bowl of HUMBLE PIE.
After discussing it further with the LGS and expressing my feeling about not wanting to be "forcing" things, I tried again this morning.
And yes,,, both you and the shop were absolutely correct.

They are very tight, but with added pressure they did screw in, and once 2/3 of the way in, it then got easier.
I was very aware of the fact that being such a small screw and fine thread,,,, and not wanting to force it,,, I simply did not apply quite enough pressure.

So,, onwards and upwards from here.  :D

Is there something between the attachment and the barrel or am I seeing funny and the barrel is allowed to whip independently?

  You are dead right, and dead wrong in what you say there BLR

Yes, you are seeing something there, but No, it's got nothing to do with the rifle or optics.
It is in fact part of the Tee handle on the safe that is showing through in between the barrel and the scope.

I have a box of factory Winchester, and Federal, that I will run it in with, and maybe then try other stuff as well.
But if it's like my Howa,, that was started on Highland, and stayed on it for ages with exceptional results, but in latter years
I changed over to Winchester,,, and there appears no difference whatever except a difference of 12 mm POI between the two brands.
Once that is adjusted to,, it hits where I want it each and every time.

Mate my T3x .223 seemed to love the Aussie outback factory ammo, the stuff loaded with the 55gr SGK.
For reloads it seems to just love the 55gr in general. 50gr were ok too but not as good as the 55gr.
It is a 1:12 twist mate so I haven’t tried anything heavier than that.
