35 Whelen twist rates - 1:16 and 1:12

Post by mauser06 » 30 Dec 2019, 10:54 pm

hi new to the forum and i am sure this question has come up before i have built a handy 35 whelen on a 98 mauser action 20 inch barrel 1 in 16 twist it shoots factory 250 grn bullets very well i would like to be able to load some some woodleigh 310 grn bullets i know the twist rate is a bit slow for them ideal 1 in 12 but seeing i will not be shooting more than 100 meters maybe 150 meters i am wondering if this might still do the trick or am i wasting my time and need to get a 1in 12 twist barrel any experiences welcome thanks in advance

35 whelen , love it . like MM says, how about a pic ? there's a few 98 fans on this forum :D

if you want to read up on the 35 whelen , do a google for "terminal ballistic research " by nathan foster and find the 35 whelen in the knowledge base section . scroll down the list and there are write ups and pics of 35 projectiles terminal performance on game . the whelen can make big holes in deer ;)
