Cheap ammo

Post by Jakotay22 » 17 Mar 2020, 1:01 pm

Hey guys,

just recently purchased a mosin nagant 9130 and I am looking for somewhere in Victoria that sells some cheap ammo. I also would like to buy some cheap ammo for my 30 06 and would like to know about that also.

I've been to a couple of shops which I wont name that are close to me in the south east, and I know that I am paying too much for what I get. I would like cheap 7.62x54r and 3006 that I can take down to the range for some fun

Thanks in advance! :D

I don't buy centrefire ammo, so what would be cheap - $2 apiece or $1 apiece?
Rebel do S&B 7.62x54R for $1.50 apiece https://www.rebelgunworks.com.au/collec ... r_7-62x54r but you want to order a fair bit to eat the $60 shipping.

Your very best bet for cheap shooting is a Lee Handloader, 100 pieces of S&B brass, 1.5kg of Trailboss, 1000 LRM primers, and some cheap Speer Hotcor bullets. Berry's do a cheap .311" Copper-Plated 123gn bullet for about $60/250. They're too small to work in my Mosins or Enfields, but shoot very well in my M1903-A3. On Trailboss I shoot these at 1700fps for under 40c apiece.

I currently can't find anything less than 2 dollars a piece near me. Boxes run for 40-45 dollars.

I am just hoping someone on here has a regular shop that they go to with good pricing.

As for reloading, I don't think I would go down that avenue bit thanks!

Good advice. You need to think about reloading. You can do it on the cheap or spend a small fortune.

I'd love to get some spam cans of milsurp but I wouldn't even know who imports them.
You could also find a friend and reload your ammo under his supervision, if you don't want to get into it yourself.
What area are you in?
Don't forget that you can sell your boxer brass, don't toss it away.

Absolutely.
$75 for the kit - https://www.rebelgunworks.com.au/collections/dies/products/lee-classic-loader-kit-7-62x54r
$105 for 100 S&B cases - https://www.rebelgunworks.com.au/collections/unprimed-cases/products/sellier-bellot-s-b-unprimed-brass-cases-7-62x54-rimmed-russian-20pk - which will last forever with Trailboss loads. If you wanted to go real cheap just buy twenty and reload them in the field :-)
$150 for Trailboss - https://www.rebelgunworks.com.au/collections/powder/products/adi-sporting-powders-trailboss - enough for 1500 15gn loads.
$130 for 1500 LRM primers - https://www.rebelgunworks.com.au/collections/primers/products/winchester-large-magnum-rifle-primers-8-1-2m
$705 for 1500 Speer Hotcore 150gn bullets - https://www.rebelgunworks.com.au/collections/projectiles/products/speer-311-150gr-hcsp-100pk
Or $360 for 1600 cast bullets - https://www.rebelgunworks.com.au/collec ... wkes-500pk

The dies and the brass will last forever.
And the components will make you 1500rds for $985 jacketed, 66 cents apiece, or 43 cents apiece for cast bullets.
For hunting ammo get some AR2206H or AR2209, about $60 for 500gms - enough for about 150-180 45-50gn loads in .30-06 or 7.62x54R.

And no more hunting around for expensive ammo ;-)

I'm just doing an ammo order now, and spotted some milsurp 7.62x54 for a buck apiece.
They have 69 boxes of twenty - 1380rds.
https://www.rebelgunworks.com.au/collections/ex-military/products/ex-military-ammunition-7-62x54r-rimmed-20pk

EDIT: Make that 64 boxes, I decided to grab 100rds myself.

I would love to get into reloading down the line but for now I'm just looking for factory ammo. Such good advice here though, just don't feel confident enough getting into reloading yet.

I live in South East VIC by the way. If I was to purchase ammo through rebel gunworks, would my local gun shop charge to transfer it also?

Thanks!

Mate try armory and ammunition in Dandenong.

You can try gunco or Melbourne gun works and gun emporium I'd you want a long drive

Or mallis might have decent prices.

Eventually comes down to relationships, the shop will give you a slightly better price if you are a regular. I was looking for some specific brand of ammo and thought of getting from interstate, but eventually found a local shop with plenty of stock and very good price

Fair bit out of your way but centreway firearms in Keilor east are very reasonable.
Generally, components are cheap esp in bulk.

PS. Reloading isnt rocket science unless you want it to be.

That will depend on your relationship with your dealer. If you're buying ammo from Brisbane because it's cheaper than his, he would probably appreciate something in return for taking delivery. You might be better off simply discussing his price and negotiate a price you're both happy with. Or have it delivered to a different business address, doesn't have to be a gunshop. TNT used to allow us to collect from their depot, but they changed that last year. My dealer has very limited access to things, I buy what I can through him then order the rest from Rebel. I have offered $50 for his time in accepting delivery for me but he declines every time.

This order came to $750 including the $60 DG freight charge. That's for 400 bullets, 500 wads, 100rds of centrefire, and 2680rds of .22LR ammo.

I'm near Traralgon/Morwell/Churchill.
