Lucky 13 in LA102 .308

Post by Moondoggy » 18 Mar 2020, 11:28 am

Hi all,

Last week I purchased a 10 round Lucky 13 magazine for my Lithgow LA102 .308

I am having problems with the magazine locking into place. It appears the magazine does not go in far enough to make the 'click' indicating that it has locked in place. The magazine falls back out again. The side of the magazine reads "2017 Lithgow LA102 CAL - 243/308"

If it makes any difference, I purchased my .308 mid last year, and it has fired less then 100 rounds. The standard 3 round magazine that come with the rifle clips in without any issues.

Is anyone aware of known problems that would be preventing the Lucky 13 magazine locking into place?

Any comments greatly appreciated!

Don't know much about the 102 and lucky 13 mags but I had a similar issue with a 303 the Smith at my lgs just filed the lug on the mag down and it worked perfect
Maybe compare the factory and the lucky 13 and see if there's a difference

I've taken some pictures and sent them to Lucky 13, hopefully will get a response.
Looks like I may have to end up filing down the lug on the magazine a tiny bit like you've suggested Farmerpete.

All fixed.
I filed down the lug on the magazine, and it now locks in place.

Moondoggy. Seeing u did such a good job on yours how about fixing mine too ? My lucky 13 mag on my 450 BM falls out on the ground every time I fire a shot. By the time I find the mag in the dark and re insert it the rest of the mob has reached the safety of the cane grass where they fall over and roll around on the ground laughing there heads off at how useless I am

hahah That made me laugh a little
I guess the real test will be when I next take it out for a shoot, hopefully it won't fall out. It cycles through the 10 rounds without any problems, and there is the normal audible 'click' as the magazine locks into place when it is inserted.
Was rather easy to do. Dusted off the old vernier calipers, measured the original magazine, measured the Lucky 13, marked on the Lucky 13 (using some aluminium tape) where i needed to file to, found an old fine file in the tool box and away I went. Took less then 5 mins.
Who would have thought .9mm would have made such a difference. I guess sometimes size can matter

Good to hear u got a result at home. Since lucky has now closed shop sometimes sorting our own stuff is the only option ....lately I have been a little more vigorous in my seating of the mag , and when wriggling it it feels firm .. so perhaps that’s all I need to do But the real test will be in the field , and that won’t happen for another two months , maybe longer as I have to cross the border into nsw .....if the borders are shut I might have to find a new pig hunting place in Qld.
