.204 accu tips for fallow deer?

Post by NukeBOMB88 » 09 Mar 2014, 7:12 am

Hey everyone I was just wondering would a .204 with Remington 32grain Accu tips be sufficient for fallow deer at 100 metres or so? Or should I go with something with more boom?

I got within 100metres when spotlighting last night but I was hesitant to shoot in case it ran into the nearby scrub. I'll have a shot next time I get within range . :D

Thanks,
Nuke.

If you haven't head shot a deer before aim just above the ear, they drop like a head shot rabbit. It all depends what your going to do with it.

It is illegal to hunt deer in Victoria with a .204 and/or with a 32gr billet.

Minimum .243 calibre and minimum 80gr bullets for hunting Fallow in Victoria.

I was wondering how long it would be before someone brought that up, considering there is a cop at every private property watching you cull/shoot deer. I'm pretty sure most people would know that by now considering it comes up nearly every day in one thread or another.

Most, clearly not all. Everyone has to learn for the first time.

And having said that - instead of telling him the laws, you knowingly send him off in violation of them?

Way to f***ing go.

You've expressed that you disagree with the minimum calibre laws "nearly early every day in one thread or another" and you're entitled to your opinion.

Don't give other people bad advice on illegal shooting that's going to land them in trouble though just because you're in a huff over it.

It's a good thing you didn't. As you now know, that would have been illegal.

That's the legal way to do it.

Continuing Norton's comment, for Victoria the minimum calibre for Fallow, Chital and Hog is .243. 80gr bullets.

For Rusa, Red and Sambar it's .270. 130gr bullets.

I've had to delete a few inflammatory comments here and the topic has been answered so I'm locking this thread before it gets out of hand.
