If your mate can master the method of left hand over, it works quite well. Other than that perhaps he could try a lever action Marlin or Winchesters in an approved calibre like 30/30, 44/40 or 45/70 etc. or the Remington 7615P which is also approved for CSD. Another thing I've seen from a Qld shooter was to extend and bend over a 303 bolt handle so it could be more easily grasped with the left hand. This modification was approved at National level, so NSW shouldn't have an issue with it, Cheers.

The CSD approved lever actions are as follows,
Henry 44/40 & replicas,
Henry 45 Colt & replicas
Marlin 336 30/30
Marlin 1895 SSS 45/70
Winchester 73 44/40
" " 73 44/70
" " 92 44/40
" " 92 32/20
" " 94 30/30
" " 94 32/40
" " 94 38/55
" " 95 All Calibres
As well as the various single shots like Martini, Sharps etc. As for 10 shot rifles, I have seen German 98 and Swedish 96 & 38 rifles with trench magazines, though the Swede was only experimental, so really only the Rem 7615 and the Enfield 303 for 10 shots. You get used to the stripper clips fairly quickly and apart from Rapid Fire/Mad Minute there is plenty of time to reload a Mauser or Springfield, Cheers.
