Wells Fargo 94 Winchester 30/30 anniversary - value?

Post by TassieTiger » 15 May 2020, 8:45 pm

At a mates place and he is getting on in years and he brings out something I’ve never ever seen before (I didn’t even know he had it...think he forgot as well) -
Told me he is going to sell it as he can’t use it anymore but has no idea on value. He offered to me far to cheaply I think - so for those in the know? Are these worth anything or have I mislead him somewhat ?

It’s a 94 Winchester 30/30 Wells Fargo anniversary edition with side saddle ring, immaculate condition, he thinks it’s fired about 50 lead rounds only (it’s the most immaculate rifle of age I ve seen), he has original box in as new condition as well, all delivery documents, Williams peep sights, side mount for scope (somehow it’s a top eject??!!), 100 loaded lead rounds, beautiful side plate engraving - never seen stage coach engraving like this - pretty cool, Comes with 3 x dies, 50 cast projectiles - timber is dark and rich and unmarked. What is a fair price for the old fella?

Couldn’t get decent pics being night. But it’s exactly same as this one;

Thanks in advance for any insight,

You have , I feel , already made up your mind ....just do it. Its rare and looks special. When jimmy hendrix gave billy gibbons a guitar , billy didn’t say “no but thanks anyway “ It does not matter if you will never use it

G'day TassieTiger,
They are not the collectors pieces they were intended to be, Winchester had a small number of the Collector Series made that sold so well they made another run of thousands and killed the value. The John Wayne with it's matching John Wayne ammo in unused condition pulls the best money, as your mates is used, 50 rounds or 5 000 000 is the same, it's used so collectors value collapses. One sold here 18 months ago, unfired and uncycled, for $1395, used I have seen Wells Fargo, Cheyenne, Legendary Lawmen etc sell for around $800 There are a few listed for sale as unfired, but I believe they have been cycled, for around $1400 but none of them are actually selling. If you gave your mate around the $850 mark you are not ripping him off, and are still paying low end of retail, Cheers

That’s Absolute gold info No1.
Sounds like it might not be the rifle I thought it to be - nor the rifle my mate thought it to be either.
Thanks for the advice - I’ll have to have a think about this one.
Appreciate it. Cheers.

Just for interest, what would a new in box, uncycled John Wayne special (the gold one of one thousand, not the silver coloured one) with commemorative ammo and the leather scabbard attract.
Listing your firearms is as good as a fingerprint.

G'day Diamond Jim,
A "Duke" 32-40 1:1000 in the condition your talking would have to be North of $6000. In the US it could pull a lot more. If I were thinking of selling one I would put it in an auction that was known to US collectors, alone without the ammo, and see what happens. US collectors are prepared to pay more for these than Australian collectors, Cheers.

Tassie, they made 19999 of them, not exactly rare. I know of one that sold for $750 N.I.B. Given that it had some corrosion under the nickel plating that was not only unsightly, it also distorted the serial number to the point that it could just barely be read. Didn't effect it mechanically though. The bloke that bought it is in Tassie, I wonder if it's the same one you are looking at?

I doubt it is this one as the owner has had it in his possession for a very long time and it is immaculate...
