Ahem. 10.23 @ 143mph at willowbank on a K3 gsxr1000...got the trophy to prove it lol.
Show me a bent 8 that can do that for under $10k.

Dont believe you...!!
Where's this "trophy" then... :unknown:
:sarcasm:

Thats an unfair challenge isnt it...given the unfair power to weight balance...

Its like me shooting a cow at 5 paces running past me with a 12G & asking you to hit a rabbit on the move at 30 yds with a 50yr old springer air rifle with decomposed seals & a squashed slug...

But good one all the same...

Tell me...is the trophy for the timed run, or being crazy enough to ride a bike that fast... :unknown:

Just kidding...id literally s**t the bike seat if i were on it... :drinks:

You did say “if you want fast”...you cannot now add in power to weight parameters lol.
I do often think, what $$ would be needed to get a v8 into the 9’s - it wouldn’t be cheap.
I’ll get a photo just to appease - 2002 willowbank Modified bike eliminator. 32 bikes in attendance at that meet.
To be fair - a better rider would have pissed my bike into high 9’s. I was average at best and at one meet I was beaten in round one by a girl who did a 15 sec pass on a 250. (But those 5 secs behind her are locked in my memory as her leather clad bottom kept waving and distracting me)!

Stix, I ran 15.6 with the 253 in the HQ sedan, I never ran it in the torana over the quarter. It had a redline of 6000rpm , blueprint stock bottom end with some choice bolt-ons . Had a well built trimatic with a 2800 stall, 336 10 bolt diff. Used to launch hard and get the jump on lots of other cars, until hitting third when the HQ’s weight would come into play.
As far as value for money taz , a mate of mine bought a r33 skyline import with all the gear for $5500 . It ran 11.7 !

Sorry for detail of thread lol.
For comparison...
A Honda Civic type r = 13.5 secs lol. Stock.
I know skylines and xr6T can easily do 11’s - but taking that next second costs money and to get into 9’s? How much $$$? Reliability?
My old man put a 351 into an early Capri...did high 11’s.
I had a ve series 2 Ute 6.0 with all the Usual bolt ons 350rwkw - it was 12.0 flat . To get a v8 into 9’s and retain drive ability and usability ? I looked into a supercharger but costs began to add up $20k for another 60kw-70kw...maybe .5 sec improve?
I sold my Ute after 18 months - I think bikes ruin you with acceleration...once you’ve become accustomed to 0-60mph in 3 secs (and I guess the open not caged feeling), there isn’t a car that can replicate it...

Ok gotvha BigRich...
I wouldve thought 2800 wouldve been past the 253's max torque...but thats just a thought--obviously wouldnt be the case if you say it launched...

And as for 6k redline--again, thats impresive in my mind...with the big stroke/bore ratio they had, again id have thought you'dve dropped a rod by then...but again...just thoughts---never had one...

I did know someone who built one for torque & economy--you know--country cruising & odd bit of towing, & it was a nice little hummer...not fast or flash, but a solid turn key reliable girl you could go anywhere in...

Tassie---havent you ever seen the funny cars mate...???...they are as you call em, bent 8's that im sure used to run in the 7's when i used to watch em... ...(or am i remembering wrong...?...certainly sub 10's...!!!)...but super charged of course...

I remember seeing a little escort here in Adel that was turbo'd...i couldnt help but think that thing was going to take off & disintegrate in the air with the noise it made & speed it flew at... ...it was amazing...!!

Can’t really see a funny car going to supermarkets or being built for under $100k and they run on $15 per litre nitromethane - that kills my usability / reliability / drive ability comparison with a bike lol.
I can ride a bike to work then turn up to drags doing nothing To the bike and run a low 10 or high 9....is there a car that can do that and if so, at what cost?

I saw a guy run a 9 on a stock Kwaka ZX12 with slicks. Supercar performance for the price of a used Hyundai. Very difficult to do that in a two ton family car.

Hell if i could id take a funny car to the supermarket i sure as hell would...!!...

But yes--i wasnt intending to argue, & for whatever reason i negated to absorb your entire point... :problem:  :unknown:
Had an arguement with the daughter this arvo, that may be why... :problem:  ....you know the type--no ability to have a rational discussion by talking--rather hang up so you dont have to hear about reality, & then continue to bang a victims point home via text, while acting as if equipped with the emotional maturity of the country's best behavioral psychologist, but in actual fact cant see beyond the rational of an entitled & sheltered 16 yr old...& im not going to say how old she really is...!!.. :?
Anyway...peace brother... :drinks:

All good mate - no arguing here, just boredom and conversation lol.
I feel for ya with the kid situation - you know, I know lol - i think the solid advice you once gave to me, I can return favour...you can only do what you can do, and a a mixed up and frustrated dad / irrational daughter is not as important as a “healthy” and whole dad...as we know...she will come around....eventually.
I told my ex about my wayward teen son - his job as a teenager, is to not die, nor hurt anyone else...and hopefully - they see some sense sooner rather than later.

stix, the mates 253 skid car i mentioned in a earlier post used to get held flat to the boards at 7800rpm for 5 minutes at a time. it was a cheaply built up motor that did that for years . so long as you do the prep work and fit good rod bolts and pistons the standard bottom end is good .you can build good torque into a 253 and 253's have the bore and stroke of a 186, they love to rev. as does a 289/302 ford and 273/318 chrysler

i'm not trying to say my 253's or 308's were the gruntiest or quickest thing out there, i used to enjoy spending time tweaking and modifying "the little engine that could" to punch above it's weight and raise a few eyebrows . there's many ways to go fast cheaply, and it's easy to buy a modern factory car that's quick, but where's the challenge or fun in that :unknown:

anyway , i reckon in rifles the 308 tikka is probably the most popular 308 in oz . i had a sako a7 that was very accurate with a load it liked , light to carry as well . it beat you up a bit if shooting of the bench but ;)

45mm DCOE Webber’s if I’m not mistaken?
Had a set on a twin cam celica - used to be a pain to balance but response was fantastic when dialled. 8200 rpm and 100 mph in 3rd gear...and spent a lot of time sideways in paddocks...learning to drive.

Lol BLR...!!

Youre right bigRich...!!... ...my apologies...dunno what i was on about...
For some reason i had it in my head that the 253 had a longer stroke & wasnt a rev hound... :unknown: :wtf: :problem: :unknown: ...
(took me a while to find the details--but thats the internet for you...!!... )

Love the look of webbers..!!
I always wanted a set on my EH...there used to be an EH run here at AIR running a straight 6 with triples poking out the bonnet---i loved that car...wasnt one of the spectacular cars, but i looked out for it each time i went as im pretty sure it was a road car, & ran incredible times given its registered status & the engine had no forced induction.
Just loved those funnels rising out of one side of the bonnet...!!
