Brokerage - Qld

Post by Cal-ApeR » 14 Jun 2020, 2:08 pm

Hi guys,
I'm in SE Qld and looking to bring up a firearm from a new dealer. Looking for the best gun store to do it at a reasonable price. My local wants $70. That on top of the PTA seems a little steep. Normal brokerage in other places is only $20

$70 sounds more like an interstate transfer, it's pretty steep for an in-state transfer.

Yes, sounds like an interstate transfer and if so, will have to go through the receiving dealer's books. There would be freight on top of that as well. So, $70 sounds OK to me.

I thought in-state transfers were legislated at $12 .

My last one from a NSW guns store to my LGS in Townsvile cost me shipping on the NSW end, and then a $50 brokerage fee at the LGS. From what they explained, they need to bring the firearm onto there books then reissue it to you which is a bit of admin work on there behalf.

And on top of that, if its something they stock or can source they may snub you for not dealing with them.

You have to be careful about the terminology that's used.
The Brokerage Fee is set by legislation in Queensland as being $10 + GST = $11. Read your Regulations.
If it's a transfer from another dealer, they are permitted to charge pretty much as they like. If it's interstate, then the dispatching dealer will be taking care of the physical transfer either by AusPost provided that it fits within their prescribed dimensional limits or some courier service, and the documentation that removes the firearm from that States registry.
The Qld dealer will be recording the firearm into the Qld registry, after which the purchaser is able to submit the PTA and transfer said firearm to their own licence. For that service, again, they can charge whatever they see fit.
If you don't like the numbers, try ringing around and see if you can score a better deal.

My QLD dealer said he will charge me $50 for the interstate transfer for my Tac12 when it comes.
