The long octagonal barrel with 9 shot capacity looked appealing traditionally and for night pig hunting but I ended up getting a simple marlin I don’t even know the model number but I think it’s a 4 in the tube mag version .....I only did my pta today but I paid a deposit On the rifle too and it’s in stock at my local So should be fine to pick it up one day next week if weapons licencing pull their finger out

Nice mate. Standard 1895, nothing wrong with that. 18.5" barrel and 4 round tube mag. Good solid rig.

You'll have a helluva time with her. I've said before but I highly recommend the PPU load for easy shooting and then Federal blue box for a.more hunting oriented load.

My pta turned up today...so I think I’m going for either a marlin 45/70 cb or a dark series or GBL.
I just don’t like the look of the Henry for some reason.
There are so many bloody marlin versions...I like the SBL but not sure if it’s worth the extra over the GBL.

if i was getting a 45-70 taz , my preference would be the pistol grip timber stock with 22" barrel . but i reckon the stainless laminate SBL would be very durable and weather resistant . and they make 45-70's look sexxxxxy .........

I do like the idea of a 22” barrel over the 18 - for sure...the stainless is pretty sexy...according to my bank manager lol.
However - who knows what I’ll get...For some reason - when I get a PTA in hand...normal thoughtful processes, go out the bloody window lol.

I couldn’t decide if a 30/30 was enough so I played it safe and made sure I had enough bang and went the 45/70 In the Marlin SBL and couldn’t be happier.

Not had a shot outside of the range yet, but i had no issues carrying it in the high country looking for sambar, and at the range it did what it was meant to do... this idiot at the thick end is no doubt the limitation of accuracy. I do really like the Xs ghost sights, I was looking at a red dot but may just stick with the factory sights.

When I had a feel of my new marlin rifle at the gun store the trigger was very heavy. I don’t know if any improvements can be made ....I have paid 500 deposit and spent nearly that again on dies and components so hopefully my pta will be approved. I usually wait till the approval before I splash the cash

Awesome news TT I shall now look into who could do that for me ...with discipline sobriety and care in the field I’m ok with quite light triggers on my hunting rifles

they make a tune up kit of a single peice ejector , trigger and alloy magazine follower. you can buy these seperately as well at times , atm the kit is $215 plus post . i bought a kit for a 357 mag marlin i had and the improvement in the trigger was fantastic .it gave me a really nice crisp trigger instead of the factory "lawyer" trigger . i fitted it myself and youtube has several posts on how to do this . go for it

no i don't work for any gunshops or receive commission on sales  i just surf the net a lot and have owned a lot of different guns over the last few years . weapons licensing probably hate me cause they have to update my file often

no worries, glad to help. i used to restore and hot rod cars , i like working with my hands. i've given up the cars and now i hot rod rifles :D it can be very satisfying to tweak a rifle to your tastes, and to make it "fit" you . it becomes yours

I’m told the JM stamp is worth the $$$ and generally a higher quality item than currently produced - but that’s just 3rd hand info I was given.
I’ll now see what’s about on weekend .

It’s unrealistic to think you’ll find the right JM when you’re looking to buy. I suppose that leaves the Remlins as the next best solution. The Remlins are second behind Miroku, but cheaper, and still decent (enough). I’m just prepared to jump on the JMs whenever they pop up, the you can “upgrade” your kit, over time.
At what point does lack of maintenance become patina?

No complaints here on my new 1895GBL. Fine rifle in finish, accuracy and use. Not saying they all are but my experience has definitely been a good one so far.
