I LOVE THIS GUN.!!!!! LA102

I finally had the chance to take the new baby to the range today.. woohooo.

Due to some shoddy bore sighting ( apparently ) it took me a while to even get holes on paper at 50 mtrs. I had to bring a target in to 25 mtr to start with and move on from there..

Finally, 8 rounds later at 50 mtr had the Lithgow pretty much bang on bullseye, so i let fly a 3 round group to 100 mtrs just to see whats what.

Shooting a smidge high and fine tuning is still required. But that grouping OMG.. 3 bullets, 2 holes. Hehe

Its true love fellas, Lithgow Love . Although its probably true to say that this rifle shoots way better than I'll ever be capable of

Well done that man!

I own a 101. For target Bench rest I use the red SK or "Red Devils" as we at the range call them with good results.
On the field use either CCI 'Mini-mags' if I can get them or Federal.

Thanks man : ) considering the number of lads shooting 300wm at the range , I thought the muzzle brake might help me stay in their decibel range haha

CrackThump,

That's good shooting even for a Glock fan! ;)

I know how great it feels to punch out a group that small. Good work!

Wish there was a hybrid style chassis system available for them like a bravo or xrs. I’d much rather use this great home grown action than a tikka or howa.

Whilst Lithgow do have their fair share of patriotic fans ( i used to be one of them) the issues they had with the 223 and 243 barrels on the LA102 did turn me away from the make - and even though my LA102 in 308 wasn't affected by any recall i decided to part ways with it when requiring funds for a new project (it was the sacrificial lamb so to speak!!)

The LA102 wasn't exactly a lightweight - but in the "Crossover" monnicker i supposed it was marketed to be a hunting / target rifle . If Lithgow would build a sporting rifle weighing around 3kgs THAT would be a thing - and take on the very popular Finnish make that we all love her in Oz?

Crackthump - the only options are full alloy chassis setups. ESS, LSS XL, TSP-X and the APC. All are 2kg barring the APC which I'm not a fan of the design. Either way, I don't want an all alloy stock with dirty great holes in the buttstock that'll snag stuff as I'm pushing through scrub.

A Bravo on the other hand comes in at around 1.3 kilo. Which is pretty much exactly what the wooden stocks of the 102 weigh. Perfect. And I could swap out the Bravo forend for a Whiskey forend for a 200g addition which would give me a lot more flexibility. That'd be half a kilo lighter than any of the worthy full alloy setups. Checkout the pic.. thats a Whiskey front end on a Bravo buttstock. Lovely! Note that it has the toolless adjustment LOP and height buttstock which I wouldn't bother with.

Solarpak - I don't quite understand why you'd get rid of your LA102 if it wasnt effected..? But Lithgow have strongly hinted that they are working on a lighter rifle setup and also that they're looking at other calibers.

Vicko,
i had a Plastikka (but with a walnut stock) in the same calibre that weighed around 3.5 kg scoped ......compared to 4.2kgs for the LA102 (scoped)
I guess i could have fitted a very light scope on the LA102 in alloy rings - but the difference between the two rifles (naked) was around 600 grams .

So the plastikka was my go to stalking rifle on 308.

Will be very interesting to see if Lithgow come up with a sporter weighing under the 3kg mark?

At the last SHOT Expo in Melbourne, i had a char with one of the lithgow guys - who must have heard what i had to say - even though he was a tad arrogant in the process.

I asked him about the possibility of a Lithgow lightweight stalking rifle in the future ........but he didn't seem interested.......well it must have finally got thru to them - the LA102 and LA105 Woomera AINT stalking rifles - and were never meant to be.

Give us a 2.9-3 kg bare rifle and you will sell a boat load!!

I can't see why they'd need or want to develop an entirely new action (straight pull) when the action that they have is already one of the nicest.

I also had a chance to speak to them at the SHOT show and found them to be excellent and really helpful. I'm sure I spoke with the same guy (Peter) who's in the above video (the product manager dude). At the time he noted that they had been hearing the 'we want something lighter' thing - I'd imagine they were already working on it. The LA102 is clearly labelled as a 'Crossover' rifle. Then they've went heavy with the 105. Makes sense that they'll complete the offering with a lighter product now. I think they do listen to feedback. Which is why I sent them another message this week.

If the LA102 had the adjustable stock (as shown in the background on that video), I'd be tempted to just buy one of those and use it as my entry to PRS... and if I really got bitten by the PRS bug then, then I'd later go down the chassis path. But ideally there'd be an upgrade path that included something like the KRG Bravo. I'm assuming the 102 can't just bolt into the 105 chassis, otherwise they'd be promoting it.
