1885 Highwall High-grade

Post by ShaneM » 02 Oct 2020, 12:28 pm

Gday, i have a bucket lister i want to ask about...
Im looking, to no avail, for a Browning design 1885 highwall falling block rifle.
These are currently built by Winchester, who apparently used to import them but have stopped doing so.
Im quite specifically looking for a 1885 Highwall High Grade.
I want it chambered in .270win (for personal reasons and dont really want to buy into the ongoing "which 30-06 cartridge is BC superior" debate)
If anyone knows of such a rifle, one that may become available for sale one day, i'd love to hear about it. Im not in a rush, it is after-all, only a bucket list filler.
I've looked into Uberti (?) replicas, but theyre all cambered in big old cowboy rounds, 45-70 45/120 etc etc.. Not what im chasing.
I've asked about importing one offs, but Winchester arent interested. (Probably scarily expensive too)
Another option is a bulk order through a local (Oz somewhere) dealer. I spoke to a couple, and to be convinced to place a bulk order (i believe manufactureres like Winchester require a minimum order of about 20 units) each said they would have to be sure they could move them.
So, to the guts of my post i guess, is there 19 other shooters out there that fancy a chance to pick up a beautifully put together single shot rifle in centrefire?

Shane

Whilst unfortunately I now can't give you a specific contact name your best bet is to find an Oz importer or US exporter and get one from the US.

I've personally imported 8 firearms from the US using B709's etc. There was an awesome lady dealer in California that would buy what I wanted direct from a dealer or I would have a dealer send them to her or in several cases she did a “buy it now” on Gun brokers for me. She had an export licence so it was super simple to arrange.

Two I imported were these collectable Browning's in 45/70.

One was this 1886 SRC 1/3000 commemorative lever action;

The other was this awesome 1885 1/1000 Bi Centennial Single shot in a commemorative case with extras.

Both together

The US lady brought both these two at the same time off Gun Brokers for me. I obtained WA Police approval and obtained B709's which I sent to her. Took a couple of weeks and I collected them from Customs under permit and took them to my local Police and they were licensed then and there.

I believe there is a guy/shop in Tasmania that does Oz imports so it might be worth an urgent search and get them to purchase this on your behalf. LOL

1886, thank you for your reply.
Firstly, i have to say im hugely jealous of both rifles, thank you for the great pics.
I had no idea importing could be simplified at all, having garnered my info from dealers it seemed incredibly convoluted and expensive
Thank you for the lead, when the time comes i 99703097185101004300906 will definitely look into this via the broker you've sent the link for
Finally, the B709's you mention, is this the import request or like?
