Post by CrackThump » 26 Oct 2020, 4:31 pm

Hey lads.. does anyone know where I can get hold of the old army issue 7.62 link other than paying $1 per link on evilbay.

Im after 100 (maybe 200) to razz up a display of fired brass to remind everyone of my glory days under the slouch hat :)

Thanks in advance.

Hi mate
I have tried getting some for my son once. The only place I did see some was at the last firearms expo in Sydney 2019.
But the guy wanted tooooo much so I decided against it.
I remember they wouldn’t let us take any off the military ranges.
Perhaps a disposal store

Youll find it hard as all of that is sent back for recycling.

Dont know what the laws on it are, but it would be easier to source from the US if you can bring it in.

Hey
I remember once, I was handed a L2A2 and 2 x 30 round magazines.
I was give a few boxes of link. I asked my nutty No 2 to separate the link to fill the mags...all seemed ok.
After a section attack, I asked my nutty No2 to bring over some link to replenish the Gun. He brought me the actual disintegrating link
I asked him how was I supposed to feed "MILO" the link...he shouted at me saying I asked for link. :unknown:
"MILO" was my Machine gun's nick name.
Why you ask... 'It's marvellous what a difference MILO makes'...

At the end of every range practice we were read a statement whereby is said “it is an offence both civil and military to remove live rounds or range produce from a live firing range, this being such a range, if you have any on you, declare it now. If at a later stage you are discovered to have live rounds or range produce in your possession, you are liable to military, or civil prosecution, or both. You have been warned”.
At the end of that our webbing was checked and we shouted the declaration as i mentioned in my above post.
I am not saying it is or isn’t an offence to possess link if you’re a civilian, however it certainly is for a defence member to remove it from the range.

Hi Jimtom
Yes I remember that.
Although I have heard of some people managing to get hold of some
I have seen it for sale at gun shows, so it must be ok for people to have it.
I think it may also be for sale at disposal stores as well.
I fellow gave me some recently, only enough to hold about 5 rounds. I showed it to my son, so he could see what it looked like in real life.

Perhaps give your local Arms & Militaria club a call or shoot them an email? Maybe they'll do the rounds to see if anyone has some they're willing to part with for a nominal sum.

And in my day the only thing we had that fired 5.56 was the m16. (Gawd bless the SLR's) .

Can't say I've ever been shot with a 5.56, but personally I'd prefer the 7.62x51mm.

Nope. But if I was ever forced into combat, I'd prefer to pack a bigger wallop. Though I'd imagine lugging around 7.62 would be a bitch.

I've read stories from Vietnam that the 762 was so powerful it would just go through and through and not cause enough damage. 556 is nasty in how it tumbles and shatters.

I don't know if you're trying to be "the cool dude" that tries to undermine me, but stop it. I'm genuinely commenting on your thread. You seem to give more of a s**t about that damn rank than I do. I am on my phone, I can't see the ranks, I'm just trying to be an active member. Step off with your bulls**t.

I had a friend who was in the military over in South Africa, he got hit in the shoulder with a 7.62x39 and that did a lot of damage to him, but it was through and through. But I do see your point and can agree with you. Though .308 game rounds would do pretty well :p

Nah, I have no need to when I can type single handed. But horizontally it does show the rank.
