On marlin forum, most are using custom dies for crimping aspect. Another advice from marlin forum.
“The Hornady website AND the Lyman 50th Aneversary catalog state that you HAVE to trim the cases to 2.040" for use with the 325 gr .458 dia bullet.
DO NOT use full-length cases with this bullet - it will cause over-pressure in the barrel, and jam the bullet into the rifling. If it even loads, that is.”

Seems the ftx might be more pain than it’s worth..

That’s why I’ve been buying the factory ftx rounds and keeping the brass, with the intention of reloading 325gr ftx to factory specs

How much are you paying though $ $85 for 20 is expensive brass...
I’m not in a rush - but it concerns me how easy it might be to mix up brass that varies by only a tiny amount - guess I could go nickel for ftx and brass for everything else lol.

The PPU load at around 1400fps with a 405gn projectile is a good starting point to replicate I think, and Trailboss loads of anything are pussycats.

I'd be tempted to use some of the Berry's 350gn copper-coated units and punch them out around 2000fps with 2207. They're cost effective and will withstand the velocity without stuffing your bore up with lead.

I've sued Black Widow coated projectiles with trailboss and they run just fine. I've only done mild loads so far but am going to work some 350's up with a chronometer and see how they fair.

So threw a another 12 325’s down the marlin today - geez it’s a fun gun blr. Your in trouble mate lol.
Another thing - I sat there looking at it thinking...I should clean the barrel - but how...bore snake or ?
The lever mech and firing pin removal is one screw and maybe 15 seconds? Absolutely brilliant design and makes cleaning a breeze!!!!

Soonish I’ll have two weeks off work. Mayb more if I can manage to convince myself that My holidays are more important than my customers. Can’t work out if I’ll spend two weeks in the bush or only one ....I have five new firearms to take into the field. Maybe I should not come back from the bush until all of them have taken game

I would personally - if you haven’t already - drop the lever and bolt before you go bush do you know how to do it. There is one tang that can fall in/out that could easily be lost.
5 ? Bloody hell - I get ancy with 1 I have to build a load for lol. Best extend those holidays I reckon!

Thanks for that. I still have my manual so I’ll look into those bits so I’m familiar prior to the field

Field clean? Action open, brush in breech, attach rod from muzzle end, pull through the barrel.
