Picked up this 1942 Longbranch No4Mk1* on Monday. It has the Mk2 300/600y flip rear sight, so I'm getting a period correct Mk3 stamped steel one from a mate.
With my 1942 Lithgow No1Mk3* and my 1943 Husqvarna M38
I've just done a season with the No4 myself; good sights on em. 10-shot mag is also one less thing to worry about. One of the big perks of the SMLE vs other designs.
I think I have a canting problem, once my muscles stretch out, usually at the back end of the match, groups tend to shift to the right. It only really manifests on the 300m line. Something to work on next year.
At what point does lack of maintenance become patina?
G'day in2anity, M39 hardly counts as Mosin, get him to shoot 90's in a Snap with a 1943 M91/30 or a 1917 M91, although one of our MRC Master Grade can do it with an M44 (Polish, though!).
Oh hey No1, Same sh!t different smell, right? he’s talented believe me, i honestly reckon he’d do just fine from standing and sitting. but yeah, might be left wanting with a knockabout m91 on the prone line... you are right about the m39 being on a different level.
I don’t have the balls to deviate away from the No4 yet maybe one day
