I really like levers and pumps. Have 8 levers and 4 pumps.
Started out as a teenager with a Marlin 39A. What choice did I have but to like levers?
Took out 5 pigs weekend before last strolling with the 45-70 and it wasn't a particularly big day. Had so much success that 2 fellow hunters have just got there own levers.
Latest acquisition is a Rem 14.5 pump in 44-40.
Hard to argue with a quick follow up in thick cover.
One well placed shot is all it takes.

Let’s declare December as lever fever month. In approximately two weeks I’m taking my 4570 for a hunt

Had a marlin 30.30 and sold it years ago. Have thought of replacing it. But then I will buy about 6 and there is no room left in the safe. Lol

I've got a slew of them, from an Erma 22LR to the marlin 45-70. With restrictions on semi's now its hard to argue with a good quick leveraction. It's honestly to the point that I am questioning keeping quite a few of my bolt actions.

Here's the Marlin 45-70GBL with my Norinco 22 for comparison:

I bought a 45-70 a couple of months ago for hunting. Haven't blooded it yet, but had a go at lever action silhouettes on the weekend and loved it. At the moment it's my favourite toy.
Now I want a pistol cartridge one. The Uberti 73 looks great but they're just so expensive.

Are we counting lever operated single shot rifles in this celebration too?

Hey Smiley, lever-gun silly-wet is a great reason to get a bunch of guns. You'll need a .22, a couple of pistol-cartridge ones and also different chamberings for the rifle class, just because. :drinks:

Lol
To the game I’ll add
2 x (orig)Winny ‘92s in .44-40 and .32-20
1 x Henry 1860 in .44-40
2 x Martini Henry’s in .577-450
1 x BSA Martini 12/15 in .22
1 x Sharps.40-65
They all have more soul in each screw than and modern rifle has.

Yep. Looking on the gun sites today. Thinking 357 mag and the minister for clips in the ear doesn't seem too opposed.
I haven't mentioned a rimfire yet.

Bladeracer, Try this,

https://www.ssaaact.org.au/wp-content/u ... lendar.pdf

There will be an informal lever-gun match/matches on the Thursday, 14th January at the pistol range near the main range.
The BPCR matches are on the Monday, rim-fire in the morning, big-bore in the afternoon.

Thanks GR :-)
I discovered today is Christmas, meaning the year is nearly over, meaning this competition is in three weeks, which won't be possible - the car engine is in bits still.

Rimfire blackpowder cartridge rifles? Or am I missing something?

It's a bastardised version of a competition shot in the U.S. .22LR calibre rifles that satisfy similar criteria to the big-bore rifle rules, shooting modern .22 ammo of coarse. Old single shot-exposed hammer rifles. Stevens, Remington rollers, Winchester low/high walls, etc. You can also use a .22 converter liner in any conforming big-bore rifle, which a few of us have. There is an allowance for Martini actions due to the fact they are plentiful here, ( Sportco, BSA 1215's and earlier only- no Internationals).
The match is shot on 1/2 size targets at longer ranges. Chickens @ 50m, pigs @100m, turkeys @ 150m and rams @ 200m. Chickens are shot standing off-hand, the rest can be shot using any position and cross-sticks. ( most folks shoot prone ) The U.S competition uses smaller, scaled targets and doesn't allow Martini's.
We use 1/2 size targets because clubs already had them for the lever-gun event. I should add that it is an "Iron-sight" competition only.
