6.5 Grendel owners

Post by snag » 13 Dec 2020, 9:02 pm

I have decided that I have to own a 6.5 Grendel. It will only be a range gun (my hunting days are over) for punching paper and ringing gongs. I have narrowed my choice down to either a CZ527 varmint or a Ruger Ranch Rifle. Anyone out there own either of these and could you please give me your opinion on them? Thanks.
The pen may be mightier than the sword, but personally I prefer the .30/30 Winchester.

Mate, I was eyeballing this one in Bendigo, but i ended up getting a 308... worth having a look at if that is what you're after!

And CZ 527s.... I highly rate them! I've owned 3, and they've only been moved on due to lack of safe room and newer CZ's coming in:D

My Dad has the CZ527 varmint in Grendel mate. Fantastic bit of kit, and a real tac driver. Set trigger is great, I would have no hesitation in getting one.

Mate if you can afford it, certainly go the CZ over the Ruger. I have both, and the CZs are more reliable, with a higher build quality.
At what point does lack of maintenance become patina?

I have the Howa mini in 6.5G. Heavier weight barrel. Very happy with it. Would I have considered a Ruger, probably not unless it was an old style M77. Would I have looked at a CZ, Oh yeah!!!, but there is a big price difference.Like I said, very happy with the Howa. Will put a decent timber stock on it once the finances allow.

1st shot fired in anger, Oct 2019, Barmah, (yes legally), those fallow back-straps fried up real nice. I hit a little far back, but the result was the result of a nice light, low recoil, accurate, effective projectile. I've since changed to the lighter, 90gr, proj. The original 123g was good, but I wasn't happy with the lack of devastation on the inside. The 90gr HP is just lean and mean. And I'm still working on a timber stock. It will make for a slightly heavier unit but will improve the accuracy.

Just tried to add the timber I had made for a Rem700 in223. It now is the same action with a Swann 204Ruger barrel. I'm hoping to do similar with the Grendel.

It's a Sako V pattern. I received it unfinished with extra length and recoil pad and did the rest.
