.17hmr or .22

Post by Kaos » 08 Jan 2021, 7:21 am

Morning all, I understand this may have been done to death but I have been contemplating a .22 for my first rifle (shot plenty of times) but a particular .17 HMR and wondered if that would be ok for rabbiting, occasionall fox and plinking..at $400 or thereabouts off the normal price seems a cracking deal...cheers

Your 17HMR ammo is very pricey for plinking compared to the humble 22

Love the 17hmr shoot that more often than not. I havent got the same desire to grab the 22 out of the safe and shoot it. Probably be the only rifle at some point that ill sell.

Hello Kaos
If its for plinking purposes, the 22LR is quieter and much cheaper to feed.
Lots and lots of different types and brands of ammo for 22LR.
Usually can get good specials on bulk 22LR ammo.
For plinking I'd go the 22LR.
The 22LR is good for thin skinned prey out to about 80m, the 17HMR will take you out to perhaps 130m, depending on skill.
good luck

Apologies I made double post. I made the first post but thought I needed it up but it was with the admin waiting for approval hence posted again.
Anyhow I’m looking at Lithgow.22 and the Lithgow .17 hmr for $799
That’s very cheap from my research but expensive ammo. I know the .22 is the right option but 799 is so cheap for essentially the same rifle. Sorta....

If you want it and can afford it, you might as well bye it, who knows when you'll get a deal like that again.
