Tikka T3 Lite 308 for a kid

Post by dayzmagnumhunter » 28 Mar 2014, 2:43 pm

Hello all

I was looking at buying a new hunting rifle and at my local gun shop they have Tikka T3 Lite stainless in 308.

Now I was looking at taking my cousin out shooting with it after pigs. He is 15 years old. Will this rifle have to much kick for him?

Thanks

How big's your cousin I guess?

As long as he's not a string bean I reckon he'll be Ok for taking a few pigs.

Probably not the rifle for him if he wants to shoot for hours of the bench, but just about anyone can pull the trigger a few times on any sensible rifle IMO.

The recoil pads on the Tikka are pretty decent.

I reckon he'll be ok.

In a mad rush that you need to grab that one while they have it in stock?

If not, maybe hang out for something with a little less bang for him for his first rifle.

7mm-08 or .243 instead?

Yep.

Living with recoil on the bench all day and pulling the trigger a few times in the field are completely different.

Recoil doesn't matter much in hunting at all IMO.

If you're doubting it maybe take him to the range or a mates property or whatever where he can test fire one.

Surely some bloke at the range will be happy to let the kid give his rifle a shot or two.

He'll be right.

If he's a bit soft it will toughen him up ;)

I think he'll be ok, but Old Farts got the right idea too.

Head to the range and give some fellow shooter $30 for the kid to put a box off ammo down range.

Cheap test before you buy the rifle ;)

Start him off on some light loads and work him up.

It'll be right.
