Tikka Forest

Hi there…

Just wondering if anyone has changed the barrel on the Tikka Forest to the fluted barrel (which is an option on the hunter model) and more importantly if it has altered the performance of the rifle?

Thanks.

I've done what you're asking except a different way.

I put a Tikka Hunter Fluted action in a Forest Stock.

Does that help?

Yeah I guess…all a bit new to me, but from the little research I've done... for better performance I would be better equipped with the fluted gear from the hunter on the Forest stock?

Am I right with this assumption?

Looking at getting it in the .270

Whether the stock performs better is up to you. If your more comfortable on the Forest stock than the standard one then you'll probably shoot better with it, so getting that makes sense.

You're on the right track with the barrel. Fluting makes the barrel more rigid, so more accurate, but isn't as heavy as a bull barrel.

Not to say that a regular barrel Tikka won't shoot good though.

The action of the Hunter and Forest are the same, so swapping the barrels on them will just swap which rifle they are. Either should shoot as good as the other.

Doing it with the barrels will be a pain though.

Do what Lorgar did, get the store to swap the stock when you buy it. Don't screw around with the barrel afterwards.

Cheaper and easier swapping the stock at the point of purchase.

Not to mention if you swap the barrel out straight away you probably void any warranty on the shooter, right?

That's what I did

The Forest stock fits me perfectly so it's very comfortable to shoot with. I haven't done a side by side with a non-fluted barrel but my fluted one is very accurate.

Under 0.4" at 100m with hand loads.

I say go for it :)

Forgot to say... Don't screw around with the barrels...

Like the guys said, at the time I bought mine I bought a hunter and had the store swap the stock for a Forest and I split the difference in cost.

(They just put the Forest barrel back in the Hunter stock and it's a normal non fluted Tikka again.)

There is no reason your LGS shouldn't do this for you if they're reasonable. If not buy it somewhere else IMO...

Cost me an extra $140 over the cost of a standard hunter or something to swap the stocks, and off I went.

Yeah, that's all fair enough.

You say you're looking at a .270, what are you hunting?

I will ask the LGS to make the swap at the time of purchase...the Forest was a better fit for me by far!

Thanks for you help!

I think that's the standard response for individuals who are a bit full of themselves due to working at a gun shop.

"it's your shooter error" which in reality means "I CBF dealing with this"
