Bought myself a Colombian police carbine

Post by Kelsey Cooter » 25 Jun 2021, 7:16 am

Bought myself a 30-06 Colombian carbine yesterday and I'm pretty stoked. I also have a spanish mauser carbine in 7.62cetme, it's good fun but the Colombians sound like beasts.

A mate of mine is a military collector, he was saying he has seen carbines from Mexico, Argentina, Brazil and Chile over the years as well.
Any you blokes have any of these?

The bloke I bought it from was saying about about a navy carbine he had seen that had a dark grey finish, I looked them up and they look awesome.

G'day Kelsey Cooter,
All the various models Colombian rifles were used to make the 18" barrel Police Carbines, yours is a former FN M1950 Short Rifle originally made with a 22.75" barrel so if you want to get a group of 18" carbines you can look for a Colombian FN24/30 Police, FN 12/33, Vz24 Police as well which have different Crests, also Venezuelan and Moroccan 18" carbines exist. The other carbines the seller listed are more likely to be military models rather than 18" Police models which have barrels rangiing from 15.75 " for the Belgian 1889 Lightened to 22.75" Argentines, as well as a few military 18" carbines. Do a night shoot, the 18" Police 30-06 outshines the Nagant 44 for flash! Cheers.

Thanks no1!
I was doing a bit of reading on the net, am I right that this was chambered in 30-06 from the start?
I assumed that ment it was originally built as the police carbine, but are you saying it was still converted down?

G'day Kelsey Cooter,
No, the FN1950 Short Rifle was a military issue for Engineers, Cavalry (Transport) etc with a 22.75" barrel , then later shortened to 18" for Police. The 1950 was specifically made in 30-06 from new and used by several countries, I have one with the crest of the Belgian Congo Forces Publique. The others were all 7x57 converted in the early 50's to 30-06 at R.Famage. Cheers.

the muzzle blast from the 16" columbian is memorable . be careful you don't start any bushfires . shoot it at night and you'll be blind for a little while ...... :D
