i'd considered building one . i was into the 6.5x55 , thought a 6.5-06 would be a good step up . bought a 270 win instead . your a kiwi , so i guess you've heard of nathan foster . i'd get on his forum and pick his brains for info . i think one guy on here played with the 6.5-06 . don't think he's on here anymore :unknown:

It's unclear what is being sought, glowing testimonials or real world data.
I am offering neither as I don't own one. I do have however a 25/06 which is pretty close and I expect you could safely use it's published data as a starting point for your load development.
Bear in mind your 6.5/06 falls in between a 25/06 and a 270 and the "sweet spot" for a 25/06 is with a 100 grain projectile while the commonly accepted "sweet spot" for the 270 is 130 grains. What that sweet spot refers to is the ideal compromise of flat trajectory and retained energy for hunting purposes.

I guess just a general discussion about 6.5 06 stuff if that's the done thing. Good testimonials bad testimonials etc. I had one built out of a 30 06 ruger american its got a pillar bedded boyds stock and true fight barrel.. I had it built as I'm one of those guys that likes odd stuff ie a lot of people will go for a 7 08 where Ill go 7x57 or 260 0r 6.5cm ill go 6.5x55 so instead of going 270 30 06 or 25 06 I went 6.5 06.

I think the 7mm has the edge over 6.5mm, a wider range of bullets (78gn to 212gn or more) and they hold velocity a little better.
If I were going to build something with long reach it'd be in 7mm.

I have eight 6.5mm rifles in five different chamberings, but not the Creedmoor as yet.

I'm hoping to finally do some serious testing with the 6.5x58mm very soon. Been reorganising my ammo storage and have a fairly wide range of 6.5mm bullets on hand.

What twist rate did you go for?
8"-twist will run bullets up to about 1.700" in length.

I went for 1 in 8. I also have 6.5x55 x 3 a 6.5grendel and this one. I just seat bt bullets straight into new 25 06 brass to make the rounds

Sounds nice. Heaviest bullet I have is 170gn cast, which is 1.255" long.
I think all of my rifles are in the 9-10"-twist region, but you should be able to use the Berger VLD's.
