Remington barrels

Did remington ever produce factory replacement barrels? I picked up a barrel today at the brisbane gun show and for the most part it looks as if its never been fitted to a action.

I remember replacement shotgun barrels but not center fire barrels but they must have existed . What you have to be careful of is people who re-blue old worn barrels to make them look new . Get a Doctors otoscope ( cheap ) the thing they look into your ears with . When the barrel is out of the action it will allow you to see the throat . If a barrel is very good there will be no wear at the throat and the end of the lands should be easy to see . Also good for inspecting inside dies and cartridge cases .

Ray trade used to have spare barrels occasionally and they also had spare Remington actions because for the most part they used to cannibalise rifles for spare parts triggers bolts bolt bodies Fireing pins back in the 90s mainly because they had a deal going with Remington and taking delivery of all their seconds that they wouldn't put on the American market that plus there is always been a steady stream of barrels for sale from donor rifles I myself still have a brand spanking new never shot stainless 270 barrel out of the rifle I bought for my 260 build
