Good evening all,

I recently picked up a Columbian (swiss?) Mauser, I know a few of the details of it but I was hoping someone here knows more?

It looks to be very interesting all things considered.
I just wanted something here...

G'day ThatNewGuy,
Austrian manufactured Model 29 Short Rifle manufactured in 7x57mm for Colombia, it was the forerunner of the Model 29/40 produced for the Luftwaffe in WW2. The cut away at the front of the receiver was done in the 1950's during conversion to 30-06 calibre. Cheers.
PS: Yours has also been restocked with an FN 1950 stock. R.Famage and date should be stamped on the reciever somwhere.

I was under the impression that they were called the Steyr-Solothurn 12/34? or is there several designations for it?

also I found the restock marking is it a vz.24 stock or an alike?

Model 29 is the common collectors name for the Steyr-Solothurn M12/34 which was originally described by Ball in his book Mauser Military Rifles as the Model 29 as little other info was available at the time and the name has stuck. You will see it called M29, M29/34, M29 modified, and as well by it's correct name M12/34. The Company also referred to it's Luftwaffe contract carbine as Luftwaffen Karabine 12/34 which you will see collectors call Model 29/40, as I did and M29(o).
Your stock is Belgian FN1950 going by the lack of grasping grooves, lack of stock roundels and cupped and ribbed butt plate, Cheers.

This is the correct bayonet for your rifle, as you see it has the 34- serial number to match the Steyr Solothurn rifles

Kicks like a mule and the metal buttplate doesn't help and shoots a bit high... but it is one gun that I wouldn't mind firing every now and then to keep that little bit of history running
