Hey guys just have a quick question. (If this isn't the right section, mods please move it)

So I've been using a 22 wmr for hunting duties to date but decided I need to upgrade.
The options I'm considering are 300 blackout and 223 remington.
Majority of my hunting is medium sized roo.
I'm aware suppressors are a big draw card for the 300 blackout, since they are illegal in my state that's a take away from the 300blk

Just wondering if anyone has been in the same situation previously and if so which one did you end up going with?
I'm leaning towards the 223 due to better ammo availability/price, but not 100% sold on the idea so just looking for opinions.

cheers

.223 all the way.

You'll find the 223 loaded with 55g projectiles far more destructive on a roos and other small game than anything you could load into a .300 BLK due to its faster and more fragile projectile.

Personally I struggle to see the attraction to 300 BLK. It's essentially an under performing .308

HI Mate
I have to agree with the 223.
I have not had an issue with mine. From rabbits to small pig and small deer.
I well placed shot, with a well constructed projectile, at ethical distances, it hasn't let me down.

I find the 22 Magnum not powerful enough, then if you jump up to a 22-250, I find it too loud for the distances I shoot (Still a very effective small calibre)
I haven't owned a 300 Blackout, so the 223 does the vast majority of my hunting work.
I have loaded different projectile for different hunting scenarios.

good luck

Of the two, .223 sounds more useful.
You can load .223 down to subsonic as well if you want quiet, but it will be less effective than the WMR.

300BLK is a neat cartridge, but a .308 is more versatile and you can load it down to 300BLK levels when you want to. BLK is really only of benefit if you're using a mini-action like an AR.

I assume you can only head-shoot 'roos in Tassie as well?

Get a 223 with a 12-twist barrel and find a decent 55 gr factory load and go forth and prosper.......

A fast twist 223 - ie 8 or 9 - will shoot heavier projectiles but for all round work - 50-55 grainers out of a standard 12 twist will do everything you need and want.
