Sako A7 magazine troubles

Post by flap » 27 Apr 2014, 2:11 pm

Just a heads up for anyone looking at the Sako A7.

I picked one up earlier in the year in a .270 Win and it's been good all around, except the magazine...

After only a couple of months of use the metal lips that hold the bullet in the mag have come away from the plastic body.

This is an issue a few people are having, or so my local gun shop guy tells me.

It's getting replaced no problems, just a pain in the ass.

I initially thought the partly metal mag might be better than all plastic like in my tikka, but it hasn't shaped up that way.

Anyway, not bagging the rifle. Just a bit of a bug for anyone looking at one.

Bummer.

I was told the same a few months ago when I got my Tikka.

I was tossing up between the A7 and T3 and this was one of the factors that steered me towards the Tikka instead.

Oh well, at least it''ll be sorted under warranty for you.

Yeah, it's not the end of the world.

Just a pain obviously. Had hoped for a magazine that would last longer than a few months from Sako :(

Even if it is there budget friendly version.

Someone is probably making aftermarket magazines for the A7 by now?

Something to look into if you have the problem again.

Yeah maybe.

I'll see how this one goes first obviously before I drop $100 on another mag though.

You can't just swap it with a Tikka one I guess?

I haven't been able to find Sako A7 magazines for less than $165. Can you get them cheaper? Do any after-market exist?

I’m also having issues with my A7 mag.

Did you guys ever find a fix or even an after market mag?

Berretta USA told me they have never heard of the issue. Go figure.

G’day mate, not sure about after market however I have been using my A7 for about 12mths without any issue. Can I ask what the issue is with yours so I know what to look out for mate?

Having owned two Sako A7's the only minus point on the rifle is the crappy magazine - and you certainly cant get an aftermarket magazine. I looked trust me.
One guy in the USA did make a new bottom metal which accommodated a different magazine (10 shot capacity i think) but getting it from the USA to Oz would be an issue unless a dealer can get it in for you.

I really dont know why Sako aka Beretta Holdings dont make a proper mag for the A7 - similar to the T3x mag.....and be done with.
An excellent rifle let down by a substandard magazine.

A likely reply from B USA ........sounds like their reply to the Sako 85 ejection issues.......works fine with out a scope fitted!!
