My K98 shooting 200gk SMK's over 48gr of 2208 is nicer and that can be a bit of a bear prone too.
I absolutely detest shooting any old mllsurp from the bench - that just aren't designed for it. The benched gun is loose in the pocket and painfully jumps into your shoulder. You'll find that if you use a triangulating sling and pull the rifle tight into the pocket (i.e. not on a rear bag), the recoil doesn't hurt near as much. Add a shooting jacket on top of that, or perhaps a plug on recoil pad, and the recoil is not unpleasant at all.
On the rare occasion we do bipod snaps novelty matches, this is how I like to shoot off a bag; very close to how I normally shoot (which is minus the front bag):

The sling is still tight, pulling the rifle into the pocket. Recoil is fine, even jacketless like in this photo.
