Now it's very hard to find a rifle for 450 dollars

after a quick clean, it looks alright, the timber is worn, metal parts are ok, some parts are really good

rifling is better than my first one...

Amazing coincedence those serials, for another I just this minute got home from picking up another Israeli Mauser, a 243 (Mauser Borsigwalde) 1940. Wood is battered, metal work faded and mis-matched but the bore is very good, looks to have been carried more than used. Cost a bloody sight more than $450 though, you got a good deal there mate! Cheers.

I love the Isreali Mauser, have already 2 and looking for more!

But, is the darker one really in the stock of an Israeli Mauser?
- the stock is not the usual one (they usually don't have the round hole in the butt, and they have the handgroove on the side, and not this kind of wood)
- the spring arrangement near the muzzle in between the barrel bands is also not the usual one
- it does not have the usual Israeli front post protection (with the two holes).
- does it have the 7.62 marking on the stock?
- the buttplate does not have the small hole
- the blueing color is not the usual one on an Isreali

The lighter colored one in contrast, is a textbook example all the typical features you expect to see in an Isreali 98K.
(and I am talking about the ex-nazis, not the FN-made post-war).

That being said, Israel got such a diverse bunch of 98K, we can't exclude that some of them may have retained their original stock and blueing in the process, in situations where Tsahal had better things to do with their time.

Anyway, at that price, everything is good! especially if it they shoot well!

G'day Vince24,
The Israeli Mausers are commonly found with all styles of stocks used by Germany, Belgium, Czechoslovakia etc. Not all Israeli you can find were converted to 7.62 and can be found in original 8mm. One of my Israelis is original German made Swedish m/39 8mm with a pale stock, two are Mauser K98k with dark stocks, the two Brno Israeli I'm waiting on are a light stock 8mm and a dark stock 7.62. These were gathered up from all over Europe by the Czechs and sold to the Haganah with hardly a wipe over. Cheers

Yep agreed they got a very diversified bunch and probably not all were re-stocked or re-blued in their fashion (though a great many of them were!).
One of mine has a receiver from 1914, the typical Israeli stock but without the 7.62 marking, so probably a stock taken from one that had remained in 8mm.

The other one is a "classic" Israeli (DOU45)

It shoots decently well with the cheapest ADI 308w FMJ ammo (haven't reloaded yet, if people have good recipes, feel free to share!)
And it shoots true to the sight! at least till 300m.

I’d love to find a Brno made one with the Brno Lion crest! You're lucky;)

I'd love the FN one with the IDF crest too, does someone in the forum has it?

Yes I like them a lot!

Thsi mark is a stylized "ce", the early mark of J.P. Sauer & Sons, later changed to conventional latin ce, Cheers.

The last affordable K98 you can buy.
Been looking for another, holding out for a dirt cheap sporterised one as I have a spare stock.

Regret not buying a 1917 Danzig Isreali mauser a few years ago -
Built as a G98
Fought and survived WWI
Survived post war Germany
Re-built into a K98 for WWII
Fought in WWII
Surrendered in Czechoslovakia
Sold to Israel
Fought in atleast one war, probably more for the Israelis
Converted to 7.62 NATO
Sold as surplus

That being said, if you think of it, only the receiver and the bolt have that much history. The barrel and stock are from the 50's.

What are your loads on the Isreali? Was thinking going for 2208 and a 150gn projectile.
