Transporting a barrel interstate

Post by Timboon » 10 Nov 2022, 12:01 am

Howdy Fellas,

I'm heading from WA back to SA over the xmas period. I was thinking about picking up a barrel from Sprinters and bringing it home with me on the return trip.

Is it possible to buy a barrel without too much rigmarole and bring it back across the border?

I have a 17 Rem in Remington model 700 that was a hand me down, It needs a new barrel, I was going to turn it into a 223.

If its too much of a dick around, i'll just get rid of it.

I understand I'll have to go through the licencing process to change calibres.

Cheers - Timboon

The barrel will need to go dealer to dealer to come into WA. If it is going to be licensed as a new firearm it will require a dealer origin within WA, otherwise you will be explaining how you come to be in possession of a major firearm part that is not registered in the WA system.

Not a lot of extra work. Buy it, have it posted from the supplier direct to the dealer who will do the work. Whether it will be worth it after both dealer fees is the issue.

Hi Fellas,

Yep i've done a bit more research and it needs to be sent to a dealership.

It will be threaded and ready to go onto the Rem 700 action which is currently a 17rem
