OK. Edited to $1600. My mistake.

Would you pay double for just over 1 lb ?
I wouldn't.

Once I had it in my hands I might. Lop 5" off the muzzle, a couple inches off the butt stock, it could make a very, very light and handy bush rifle. Fit a front sight and a rear aperture.

And you could load it back with Flat nose 30-30 pills and run it sub sonically, imaging all the rascally rabbits you could shoot

Old Bloke the Superlite is a Short action 308 (max coal is 72.5mm), best keep any comparison that way.

There is nothing and I say nothing even remotely close on the market for less than $3k that even comes close to this fine forged Japanese steel.

I am still waiting to see some genuine owner tests of accuracy though, it seems they're taking a very long time coming. Youtube channels should've been lining up to grab these as soon as they appeared to test them to death. I'm surprised Howa themselves didn't send them out to the big channels for testing.

Average of 3x5 shot.groups

Seems to shoot sub MOA 5 shot groups with ease...

That's neat alright, but I want to hear from owners, not magazine contributors.

Doh. Assumed a 223. Should have read the blerp better.

That is bloody light for a 308. No fun over the bench.

Blade is right about magazine reports, I'm yet to read a negative one. 1.5 MOA is good enough for most hunting if it's bigger stuff.

Yes, and the early "reviews" simply reiterated the Howa blurbs and clearly didn't even have the rifle on-hand - that is not a "review" of any relevance.

I'm sure it's perfectly capable at close ranges on medium to large targets.
This is the only real testing I've seen, and it wasn't perfect.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6YS5o6iA7GU
He had significant feed issues (probably just a weak ejector spring), and his very rudimentary accuracy testing (shooting rocks on the hillside) didn't instil great confidence over its precision, though he probably did get it fairly warm. He has taken medium game with the rifle but still hasn't posted any actual accuracy testing. As long as it doesn't throw the cold shot too far from the follow-up shot it would be fine for its purpose. In 6.5Creed though, I would expect owners would want pretty consistent groups for knocking over smaller animals at longer distances, and probably putting more than two rounds on target consecutively.

He did say that Howa sent him ejector parts for a standard Howa bolt which don't fit, so there do seem to be differences that might mean there's not much compatibility with the more standard 1500's. It's hard to believe a simple ejector stud and spring wouldn't be interchangeable.

Barrel must be very thin so I think any accuracy tests would have to be 3 shots.

Just a quick run in and sighting session Oldbloke, also working up some loads with Atomic 29 130g & 155gr HP. Quite pleased with the quality of the stock and the overall performance. Barrel had a mirror finish and cleaned more easily than expected.

And the action is nothing more than the Mini Action lengthened 6mm with the ejection port opened up by 18mm, with a short receiver bridge. Lugs are about 20% larger and the bolt has larger gas ports. :drinks:

Yes bigpete its as light as reported, Ive put a reasonably heavy 4.5-14x50 Meopro HTR scope on top in some steel Warne rings and it still under 6lbs.

I have guests from Ireland staying atm but hopefully I can get to the range tmw.

Bigpete, billo,
Are you both still happy with the 308 Howa Ultra lite??

Any issues?

What is recoil like?

I grab the 308 Super lite out of the safe every friday mate, it does every thing I need from walking the hills to thermaling

Has been faultless to date, have chopped and changed pills cause I could, have finally settled on the 150gr Outer Edge HP projectile, very accurate and it gets the job done at 2820fps

Too many big boars roaming the hills atm and I finally got a 2nd look at a grey boar that should go well over 140kg. Unfortunately just on dusk & a 500m gap meant I had no hope of getting close to him, had 2 other mobs of pigs in between and a million roos.
