The 357 would be more accurate, but in rifles that you can get both calibers in the difference in accuracy won't make a difference.

So get the one you want the most.

I thought I replied, but I guess for some reason it didn't post.

The 44-40 can be very accurate out to 300 yards, and when properly loaded, retain enough energy to be deadly.
29 of 37 shots inside a 14" circle. I measured 165 yards but the range says 300 yards.
