Ruger gunsite and alpha industries magazines

Post by MeccaOz » 23 May 2014, 10:50 am

G'day everyone,

Have any Ruger Scout owners tried the Alpha Industries magazine? Just looking for a bit of feedback, as everyone on the nets says they a great, but they all seem to say they need a small modification, but I'm not sure what that is.

Anyway they are a double stack magazine, so obviously shorter.

Hey Mecca,

I haven't got, but have used these once or twice on a mates rig.

Definitely smoother than the factory steel mag. Lighter springs and smoother feeding lips.

Dunno what this modification is? His worked better out of the box?

How long have you had your Scout for Mecca?

The reason I ask is when I got mine, the factory magazine was pretty ordinary.

Really clunky all round. It bit into the brass heaps and wouldn't load smoothly. The spring seemed to get stuck all the time... It was just s**t

But... After a 100 or 150 rounds or something it really smoother out all round.

To start I was looking at after market mags but before I got to one my factory mag sorted itself out.

Dunno if that helps you but yeah...

I was wondering if anyone has one, if it's a double stack, would it be possible to load from the top? That would be a nice feature.

That could be the cherry on the top for me to get one if that's the case.

Righto.

Well yeah, just some feedback to remember then I guess.

If you find the mag is a pain to start it does get better :D

I know that's a deal breaker for a lot of guys, not being able to top load the Scout.

That would be a win for them if this mag lets you do it.

It was one of the main reasons I got a Hawkeye instead of a Scout back when I started shooting.

Got a Tikka now which doesn't do it either though

Shoots better though ;)
