Sako or Sauer

Post by Shootermick » 27 May 2024, 9:17 pm

In the market for a bolt action 308.
Looked at a used Sako A7 last week, hadn’t done much work at all by the look of it, no marks, very neat.
Choice number 2 was a Sauer 100 XTA stainless. Same money for the used Sako as the new Sauer.
I’m thinking that either option would be good, but looking for opinions from anyone who has owned one or the other.

Normally I would say Sako everyday but I think it was Gwion that had an A7 and had all sorts of issues with it. Any other model of Sako like an 85 are top quality and you can expect them to shoot very well.

Hi Mate
My vote goes to the Sako 85.
I have several in different calibres and configurations, and they work great.
Have you looked at the TIKKA rifles, they are good.
The below pic is from my 308 (sako 85 Finnlight) using the ADI 135gr bullets. Very accurate for a hunting rifle.
These shots was taken off a bench at 200 meters. And, I am an average shooter.

Sako finnlight 165gr .308 accurate and light, did get the sticky stock issue. I use a recoil pad mainly for length of pull.

I've read some paint them for that reason.

Well I guess I’ll find out if the stock goes sticky. Bought the Sako today. Would pretty much pass as brand new. The Sauer 100’s have gone up a fair bit too.

How did you solve the sticky stock problem?

Put a Vixen 3-12x40 on the A7 today and sighted it in, just a touch high at 100.
First impressions are really good, great trigger, smooth action, great feed, ability to top load magazine. Points and handles very nicely.
Considering my other working rifles are all Ruger, this is a class above. The Ruger’s work, and work very well. But I just wanted something a bit nicer this time around.
As long as the stock holds up over time, I think I’ll be very happy with it.

So did that bring it back to just raw plastic like other stocks?
