Got a rifle and find out the mag there is something special

I am no expert but I think that was the modification from when they switched to the MarkVII bullet from the old round-nose bullet. As it doesn't have the lanyard loop I think that makes it a Type 3 magazine.

What's wierd? Looks to be a normal post-1905 Magazine No 3 for the SMLE Mk1*, movable lip on the right and should have had the fixed lip on the left which has been removed.

2 bloody edits to my post for F;s sake! need to get better sleep, post 1905 with the retaining loop removed and case modified Case No 2 with the rivetted spring retainer to Case No 3 specs as bladeracer pointed out..

Have a look on the rear of the case under the spring to see if it is still numbered 2 or has been re-stamped as 3, most converted cases were not changed but I have 1 that was.
