Columbia FN Mauser 30-06 short rifle in VZ24 sporterized stock

had a Ruger scout rifle, sold to my friend but still like the idea of scout rifle

found the cheap short FN Columbia rifle with a very good bore and I have a spare shortened VZ24 stock so here is my budget "scout" rifle

thanks, it does fell right in hand and well balanced, maybe recoil will be sharp

Don’t know yet
But standard length barrel one is ok, it’s mild I reckon
Even smoother than my friend’s sauer 101 308

Does your Columbian still have its crest?
I find it a nice little bonus on those rifles.

As far as sporters are concerned, I like the ones made on a 303 Lee No4 basis:
- excellent sights
- mild recoil with 150 grains projectiles and 2206H
- 10 shots mag capacity
- and still a pretty light rifle

Bet it throws a huge fireball. What a fun piece of kit.

Actually, it'd make a great swag gun too wouldn't it... slip in and out of a tight space real quick...

Years ago when we weren't potential criminals, I had a short 30-06 Tanker Garand that I bought from Peter Cue's Tarragindi gunshop. I got my M14's from him that we used for our culling jobs.
My mates wife took a pic of me sticking out of some tall dry grass in the middle of a paddock in total darkness, firing a shot, with her professional Nikon 35mm. She used an open shutter, then lit me up with a handheld flash. The resulting pic was blown up to poster-print size, has the empty case hanging in the air. The flash that rifle had was enormous. The pic is in my man-cave and is unrepeatable now.

Just an idea. Perhaps smartphones have this feature in them now, maybe not the postersized crispness of a dedicated camera for posters. Maybe?
