H&K417.... now you're talking, funny how we adopt a semi-autp(select-fire?) 7.62.... have we been there before?

I say we disband the formal defence force, bring in compulsory service for all male of 'fighting age and fitness' and require all said males to maintain at the ready, at home, their combat rifle, namely the said H&K417 :D .

The full auto version was the L2A1 AR (a heavy barrelled, 30 round mag with bipod version of the L1A1 SLR) - function was OK but difficult to keep on target when firing bursts. The 7.62 Brens were an entirely different kettle of fish, super accurate!

yeah, Ironsides, we weren't all that impressed with the L2A1 LMG - gave 'em to the cooks - some weren't good cooks so hope they were better shots.

I believe the SAS made a few "in field' modifications to the L2A1's, shortened the barrels and added a 40mm grenade launcher underneath. Don't know how they went but I can't imagine the SAS playing with anything that didn't perform.

I found that the 7.62 and SLR (L1A1) worked well; it was just that the SLR rifle needed to be modernised.

Cheers,
