Anyone make a 1 piece stock and action?

Bolt action rifles, lever action, pump action, self loading rifles and other miscellaneous longarms.

Anyone make a 1 piece stock and action?

May be a stupid idea but here goes...

Everyone goes on about how important it is to bed our action.

Seems like some brand might skip the whole drama and make a 1 stock and action. Skip the whole problem and doesn't get any more rigid than being the same thing.

Now tell me why it's a stupid idea

To replace the need for bedding it probably would work great.

Making an action is a relatively small job though compared to milling a stock and action as 1 piece. I suspect it would cost far too much.

Probably be too tactical (read: "scary lookin'!") and be illegal anyway

Interesting idea, I wouldn't say stupid. Impractical though.

Just look at the accuracy of a professionally bedded match rifle... How much better could a 1 piece body really make it.

You could do a lightweight one, you'd just end up with something that looked like an AR - A girder style frame instead of a solid wooden style stock.

Kind of reinventing the wheel with it though, and wouldn't be worth it anyway.

I guess it is important to bed the action if the stock requires it, i would avoid the stocks that require bedding, i accept people are individuals so each to their own.

If you look at stocks like AICS or even one of my favourites the MDT LSS the action bolts in with no bedding required, i like the MDT LSS the action/trigger/barrel can be removed by undoing 2 bolts in however long that takes individuals it is a lot cheaper than the AICS.

The stocks are getting better, i prefer metal over wood, i reckon i could make a balsa/cedar/epoxy/S glass one with maybe a few carbon and kevlar areas to add strength for carved/shaped pistol grip, stock that would be light, nice to look at with clear honeycomb balsa and cedar, it would be waterproof and strong as i have built sailboats from the same material while trying to resolve 6 tons of compressive stress from the mastbase so could even have an alloy bed built in so could be removeable with 2 bolts.
Try google for strip plank cedar canoe to get an idea of the final finish.

Nah a lot of work i would probably just buy another MDT LSS chassis.

My thoughts exactly on the idea.

Plenty of things which already do the job and are ready to buy now.
