Brits Found A Way to Make A Legal AR-15

Those clever brits, they made a lever release AR-15. Bolt gets driven back by gas pressure and hits a catch that must be released to fire the next round.

Would something like this fly in Australia?

That's cool. Knowing our licensing system they'd say people would try to modify the rifle to be semi automatic. If that didn't work they'd play their trump card, Australians can't own firearms that replicate a current military firearm in function or appearance

in this, the lucky country it will only need to look like an AR15, more so look like an M4/M16 for it to be one and therefore reclassified and therefore unavailable to 99? 99.9? percent of licensed shooters....

It could be a lever actioned flower gun, if it looks black and AR(AK)ish, it is an evil assault machine death weapon.

Forget the rifle, AR15-compatible magazines - and anything that can accept them - are illegal in some states here. Completely without merit of course but since when have our firearms laws ever been based on sound reasoning and logic?

Admittedly the rifle looks cool but apparently costs something like $9000? For that money you could buy a return ticket to the US, get a 'real' AR, a few cases of ammo and a couple of month's rent.

Cheers, Ben.

Nope.

Just a "military-style appearance" makes them prohibited here.

Probably easier to get an AR style stock for the PWS T3 mentioned in this thread viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2110

Points for lateral thinking... We'll never get one though.

Why doesn't some company produce a rifle with this firing mechanism that looks like a regular sporting rifle and has a internal top loading magazine?

You would still be able to do quick follow up shots. Who needs a 30 round magazine anyway?

I know that I would definitely buy a gun like that if someone made one :)

I suppose because in the States if you want a semi-auto you just buy one.

None of the BS we have here, especially banning stuff because it "looks similar" to something else.

I hear your idea, but they have bigger markets with their regular stuff I'm sure.

There have been attempts - like from the guys at Warwick - but they all seemed to have fizzled.

Expected prices were something to baulk at too.

Compared to the USA (especially), Canada and European markets I think we're just too small beans for them to even consider TBH.

No handguns at all though right? Sucks if pistol shooting is your thing and you move there :(

Air pistols are very popular over there. I have heard of people who have pistols, I imagine it is a bit like here in that there are a thousand hoops to go through.

They could have pistols, but were not allowed to keep ammo at home for them.. There was a push a little while ago to over turn that, not sure how it went.

I thought there was no private pistol ownership there. Maybe it was centrefire pistols only and air pistols are allowed?

Not sure though TBH.
