How good are Ruger No 1s ?

Hi guys I have been looking at single shot rifles. Who makes a falling or rolling block apart from Ruger and Winchester?

How good are the Rugers in terms of quality and accuracy versus the Winchesters?

Pedersoli, Uberti.
There's still a few of Wile. E Coyote's ideas that I haven't tried yet.

Dont forget tilting block, and if its single shot specifically; there are bolt action centrefires available in that configuration
There are other falling block manufacturers, but the Ruger is the cheapest in the falling block field.

They're ok rifles.

Really competing on price like 1290 though, rather than being top accuracy rifle.

I found the scope mount was further forward that I'd like.

You need a scope with a little extra eye relief or it'll be too far forward.

No good if you just have a basic hunting scope.

Old school hunting rifle.

Not much more to say really?

They do the job of course but are too heavy for my liking.

Not sure I'd say that.

A mate of mine shoots factory ammo with his 375H&H and is getting sub inch groups.

Plenty of people happy with that with more modern rifles.

not always about accuracy, you can pay tens of thousands on a custom job and not necessarily get better shooting.... you will get hand machining and assembly, hundreds of hours of detailed hand engraving, deep lustrous rust bluing....

When it comes to production line rifles, just like the Ruger 1, especially when the hammer forged barrels are used its a hit and miss, you will have plenty of top shooters, but also the lemons. Just consider the barrels; when they come out of the barrel hammer they are not always straight... they then use another hammer or hydraulic press to straighten them out :? and guys wonder why they shoot really good but the third or forth shot sprays out yonder...

I love them to be honest, but i could never justify one simple because I think my ethics have to allow for a quick second shot. Not to say it cant be loaded quickly but I think im stuck on a good double rifle :)
