I was waiting for this to come out, I first saw one when the Starwars exhibition was at the powerhouse museum, about five years ago?. Many of the weapons used in starwars comprise parts of genuine firearms. For instance Austen hand grips are prevelent on a few and there are other examples. One weapon uses parts from an MG42, try and spot it.

On Sunday I used an original DISCHARGER CUP on an EY reinforced rifle(a full sized SMLE with wire reinforcing) to launch balls 50meters plus using .303 blanks- a lot of fun. It should be noted that shortened SMLE rifles were used, unofficially, as pistols by the tunnelers as there was a shortage of pistols and aussies are known improvisors. Genuine discharger cups are legal and don't require licencing.

However launching grenades into a tunnel probably isn't beneficial to either side nor could the firearm be held as there is WAY too much recoil, the reason the rifle was meant to be reinforced before use with a discharger cup.

I could be wrong and there could be a genuine military firearm such as this but I doubt it, I think it more likely that either Apollo's uncle is a Jawa or there is a funny smell to his post.

I would be quite happy to be proved wrong as there are some unusual things out there.

Thought this sawn off three oh was pretty cool as it was something they used in the tunnels in WW1

A bolt action rifle seems like the worst option possible for a tunnel?

Any reason they didn't use a regular shotty?

Any ww1 buffs know the reasoning?

The Australians were directed to not use shotguns as personal weapons after the Turks complained during the Gallipoli campaign. I have only sighted two references to Australians with shotguns: an ordinary soldier with a cut down s x s and an officer with an Ithaca pump.

The Americans, in some instances, were issued with 12 guage pumps in WW1 and there are a few accounts of them being used in the trenches. Some were fitted with bayonet lugs for the 1905 springfield bayonet. I don't know much about them.

I've just been asked by hubby if anyone has a photo of another unusual firearm.

A "junket gun", not 100% sure on spelling though.

Apparently they came in both large and small bore, and varying length on the barrels.

So, anyone got a pic?

I heard em all as an apprentice, the first day I was sent to the pay office secretary to ask if she had seen any 12" reproductive tools lately as bob(name changed) reckons you have seen more around here than anyone he knows.

My stepson (20yo) is really wanting to get into guns.

Hubby and I told him to research the junket gun, and when he's able to answer all of our questions about it, he gets a free driving lesson.

I'm having trouble keeping a straight face over it, cos every time stepson walks into the room and asks a question, hubby comes up with something new to look up. The last bit of advice he gave was "It's known to smell like alfalfa after firing".

Stepson asked if he should type that into google, or maybe ask Siri on his Apple iPhone.
