Chiappa Levers!

Hi guys I am just trying to get feedback on anyone who has experience of Chiappa lever rifles. A 44 mag 24" octagonal barrel one has caught my eye.

Marlin don't make them with that barrel nor do Winchester!

Not what you asked for but I've got a chiappa lever 12g, love it, love it, love it.

Finished perfectly, walnut, colour case hardened, mechanical finish flawless smooth and refined, they produce quality firearms, I've not heard any negative feed back on them to date, I've dropped over a thousand rounds through mine with not a single fault, I'm saving for a rifle now

Yep I have a Chiappa 92 clone 24" sporter in .357 mag and it is a smooooth roller! I bought it interstate but received one with a damaged dovetail on the barrel but was sent a replacement rifle immediately. It is excellent quality and workmanship. Well balanced, and fine grain of wood on her. The colour case hardening looks great too. I have attached an original marbles tang sight on the rear and a lyman 17AHB (404 high) front sight but haven't yet fired it with the new sight :)

Rossi also do a .44 mag lever action not sure if you can get it with an octagonal bbl but worth a look. I have a rossi 92 carbine in .44 mag and it is my go-to pig rifle. Casting lead projectiles for it has been fun also ;) post some pics when you get your beauty!

I still don't know what to think! The new marlins 1894s are suppose to be a lottery, I hear the same about Rossi 1892s.
I haven't heard much at all about Chiappa. The new Winchesters are good but have a safety on the tang!

The Chiappa new build seems truest to the original!

Its an 1892 damn it that is were a tang sight is suppose to go, there is suppose to be a grub screw with a nice hole drilled and tapped just waiting for that sight!

Another thing, why is everyone offering 1892 pretty much with 20" barrels when a lot of true 1892s came with 24" barrels?

How would a re-chambered 44-40 stand up to a 44 mag?

Bullet choice seems to play a big part in them. Lots of failing to feed with certain projectile shapes with a pair a mate has in .357 and .44.

They can be a big fussy... His .357 was still a bit dicky before he sold it, but once he got the ammo sorted for his .44 it's been a smooth shooter.

Everyone?

I could be wrong, but I actually thought the 20" barrel was a limited run.

I thought they did 500 of them or something as a promo short rifle....

Winchester do "Model 1892 Short".

20" versions might have been a limited run way back when, but they're a standard offering now.

Winchester only list a 20" round barrel on their website :(
Marlin list a 20" octagonal, 20" round and 18.5" round :(
Rossi list a 16" round, 20" round, 20" octagonal and 24" octagonal :) (but its not Winchester, quality?)
Chiappa list 16" round, 16" octagonal, 20" round, 20" octagonal, 24" octagonal :) (but its not Winchester, quality?)

Why oh why can't Winchester make them with proper 24" barrels as well?

Even if Marlin did make a 24" barrel, is the Marlin 1894 slick enough?

Don't know for sure but is there a Chiappa Owners website? The only discussion i have seen is on www.MarlinOwners.com/forum. If you go waay down you will see Non Marlins. It's in there and good luck

I have Chiappa Alaskan in .357.
Perfect.
