Tikka Super Varmint any more accurate than regular Varmint?

Post by puffnstuff » 01 Oct 2014, 1:42 pm

Hi guys,

Realistically, would you expect the Tikka Super Varmint to be any more accurate than the regular Varmint model?

The straight Varmint shoots pretty damn good looking at pics on the net, is the Super really worth the extra money?

Same action and barrel so Nope.

Buy a Tactical or Sporter for a match barrel and chamber if you need a factory gun to shoot better than a Tikka Varmint.

I've owned 2 tikka varmints, both shot better than 1/2 moa with handloads

The Super-Varmint is more about the stock than the barrel.

Adjustable cheek piece etc.

Not arguing either way but I would note while they both come in the same range of chamberings the Varmint does have some shorter barrel lengths.

The Varmint with a 20" or 23.6" barrel depending.

The Super Varmint barrel is 23.6" inches in all chamberings.

If you were being real fussy and specific about barrel length you might prefer the regular option over the Super.

Probably not but it's there FYI.

Hi
I don't know its more accurate , but I think its can be a lot to do with caliber chose and hand loads.
I have a Tikka Super Varmint in .260rem with 8-32x56 S3 Sightron and it shoot well under .5 Moa with Berger VLD and Lapua brass and VV550 and 2208,2209 and 2213 powder.
A best of .215" and .280"
I have shoot under moa at 300mts and I am sure it would preform well in F open
God Forgives All Trespasses , I dont I shoot them

I agree, the stock is identical to the varmint stock except the cheek piece is adjustable (I've run a 60mm objective on my tikka varmint in high rings on a ken Farrell steel rail and never needed additional cheek height) rather than fixed and it has 2 additional sling swivels mounted on the sides if the stock.

It also comes with a zero moa pic rail all for the princely sum of a. $270 premium over the varmint.

None of these additions help rifle accuracy in my opinion however they may make a difference to some.

Try the Varmint first.

If it feels comfortable for you then no need for the $270 premium (thanks Chrons) for the other stuff ;)
