Browning Maral vs Sako

Post by Korkt » 09 Oct 2014, 2:17 pm

I'm looking to sell a few of the old shooters and using the funds for a new 'forever' rifle and am looking at the higher shelf stuff.

Thinking either the Browning Maral or a Sako.

This is a bit of an apples and orange comparison with the straight pull but anyway. That's not a critical feature so I can live with or without it. The Maral is a few hundred dollars more though and given the quality Sako.

Anyone got some convincing arguments for either option over the other?

No convincing arguments , They are both excellent rifles. Personally I'd like both, but If I had to choose Id go the Maral for the straight pull :)

I'd like either. They are both very pretty and just have that quality appeal.

Having a straightpull rimfire (brownng t-bolt) and a traditional bolt action 22lr; i like the t-bolt a lot but it's not hugely faster to cycle than my Sportco and in reality, does that (less than)1/4 second difference make any real world advantage!??! In fact, on a center fire i might even feel a bit more confident with a simple 3 locking lug bolt. A bit like fancy bits on cars, sure they're handy, but the simpler the build the less things there are to go wrong with it.

Just a thought.

Quality on both is excellent.

I haven't fired a Maral, just handled in store. And I have a Sako 85.

Either or honestly... I got my 85 before the Maral was available but no regrets. It's obviously good ;)

Aside from the straight-pull I think you're going to be splitting hairs with these two.

No overwhelming benefits either way AFAIK.

If you haven't got a straight pull, the Maral?

Might as well have something different ;)

I figured as much.

Thought I'd ask just in case there were any hickups either way not mentioned in the marketing stuff.

Hmmm.
