Remington 7600 pump action

Post by MeccaOz » 20 Oct 2014, 7:02 pm

Ok I thinking of getting a Remington 7600 pump action in .243. What I'm looking for is a good quarterbore, with a fast follow up shot. Ive heard some really negative things about this gun like the rails binding, the magazines not working if you use after market 10 shot mags. along with a whole lot of others I cant remember off the top of my head. So I want to hear from the owners or users of this gun to give me the pro's and con's. Not that this is directly related to the topic, I'll be using it for things upto the sizes of largish pigs out to several hundered meters. My thoughts are eith or this, on the Browning BLR, and the 303/30 lever.

Im unsure of the browning because of that larging lump of metal flying back into your cheek when racking the action ... Is this a problem if you dont lift your head out the way, or doesnt it really go back far enough ?

The 30/30 I'd love by doesnt quite have the reach I'm looking for.

I've actually got a 7600 on order, layby at the local gunshop, have friends with both .308 in police and standard models and they rate them, one of them consistently dropping goats out to 350m across the valleys, another has the full camo .223 it's his only rifle and he reckons he won't buy anything else does all he needs mostly goats Roos and pigs, I tossed up a long time about calibre for mine was going another .243, but I think I'll go another .308 varies the collection a little gives me a better deer rifle over the old single shot baikal

350 sounds pretty perfect, I have a 308, thats why I'm going for the 243... vary it a little like you. I dont mean to make the sound really bad, obviously since I'm looking at one myself, and I have noticed especially on the internet, if a person doesnt like something about a gun, they tend tyo run them right down. It was like when i bought my scout, everyone said there s**t cos of the action, but honestly from the get go, if you applied a tiny bit of downward pressure when pushing back in it's no drama's and as it runs in it just gets better all the time ... So Im just trying to get a real perspective on them mate, so thanks :D

I've got a 7600P love love love it. Goes perfect slung over my back whilst chasing down bacon and 4ft tall rabbits on my bike out chinchilla way.

It's short and easy to belt out another round if you miss, I haven't even bothered to put any optical sight on it(ghost rings preform better than I expected)

I've only had one hang up and that was because I used rounds that a mate and I made for our bolt guns and the overall length was just a little to long.

I've heard some of them aren't as smooth as others so I guess just handle it in the shop before you take delivery I guess. You will be able to feel if there is anything drastically wrong im sure.

I think .243 is a good choice for a pump action. Still has plenty of knock down power but the difference in recoil between it and the 308 will allow for a better follow up shot.

Can anyone tell me about the rachet that comes back on the BLR, does it come back so far you have to lift your head, or get wacked with it ?

Remington 7600 .308

Post by Point223 » 20 Nov 2014, 9:27 am

[Original title: Remington 7600 .308]

Interested if someone here can review this pump? and whether it's worth dishing out $1,500 for it

Thanks.

You can be pretty confident it'll shoot.

Did a bit of Googling for groups and people are getting 1/2 - 3/4" groups with the right load.

Hi guys,

I have a 7600 police in 308 Win. Having trouble with the wilson combat sights, it just shoots way too high. I adjusted the rear sight by droping it down a bit at a time but now I have it as low as it will go and it still Shores high. I am trying to set the sight to zero at around 200m and at the lowest setting its about 500 high! At the lowest setting! What am I fdoing wrong? Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks

The 7600 seems to be a bit of a lottery, like the 336 Marlins. You puts your money down and you takes your chances. My 7600 is flawless, BTW  No idea how you pick a good one. Not being smug; I have had two bad rifles, both of which were levers. One thing I have learned; don't trust reviews. I did and was bitten both times.

Is it one of the sliding sights or a screw adjustment?
You have it mounted directly on the receiver, not on a rail?
Can you post photos of the sights?

Not particularly. A 35 Whelen 7600 sold a couple of days ago but know idea if it was original. Never seen a 35 rem. Google tells me it was a limited production run for both 35 ‘s in 2005. That is a long time ago for limited numbers. If you find one it will be a rare gun.

Yeah that's what I found also, the 35 whelen is factory for the 7600s. Maybe I'll have to talk to a gunsmith however i won't be paying an arm and a leg if it comes down to it.
