Straight grip vs pistol grip for level action?

Post by howtow » 05 Oct 2013, 11:47 am

Hi all,

I'm keen to add a lever action to my collection. It will be my first so seeking some advice regarding stocks.

I'm looking at something like the Winchester 1892 or similar.

Question is about stocks... Is there some advantage to be had with using a straight grip over a pistol grip stock?

I'm used to my pistol grip bolt actions but am open to trying something new with the straight grip if there's good reason to.

Cheers.

On some (not all I don't think) that with the straight grip the lever throw is a little shorter?

Not that that would make much of a difference to you I wouldn't think...

Hmm, the same amount of movement is required to cock the action though, no?

How does the stock effect this?
