It's not like Canada needs a cutting edge military either.

I think you need to check out Canada's Northern shores proximity to Russia . The World is ROUND remember not flat like the map .
Canada is a very likely target for Russian expansion due to that close proximity and the agreeable climate that would favour Russian equipment and personnel . Not likely to happen due to the USA being big allies and on the same continent but Canada still needs to be able to defend it's self as the major deterrent .
