Seems a bit short....The DTA SRS has 26" which is the same as the Barrett M98B's. Not sure how much of a difference 2" makes to velocity and if it'll matter much. Guess it depends on what range you intend to shoot to.
How's my posting?

Cant say I know much about them, but when it comes to long range guns, Brett knows his stuff.

Don't forget it is a Police model. Meant for "urban sniping", tight spaces and all that. Short barrel is a cookie cutter feature for these things.

With that in mind, I don't know what they're trying to accomplish with this rifle?

Short barrel, it even says medium range in the name, so why is it chambered in 338 LAP?

If you want a short barrel medium range rifle, they already do the 700 SPS tactical in .308.

Half the cost, half the recoil, the same accuracy (haven't shot them both but probably). The SPS is a damn accurate gun.

If you wanted a high power long range Remington they already did the '700 Long Range' and 'XCR Tactical - Long Range' in 300 Win Mag.

Not trying to rain on your parade but that's my view of the thing, I dunno what it's for...

The intent for the SPS Tactical as I know it is to be as accurate as possible at short-medium ranges. If you want a Remington to punch paper at 100m and have a ragged round hole at the end of 3 shots it's the one to get.

I guess with .338 they just pushing that philosophy up a step. Heavier pills, higher BC, better and bucking the wind etc. Something to take a few more fractions of an inch off inside a few hundred metres?

Good for you!

As far as I'm aware the MLR uses the same M700 pattern bolt/luggs/ring, compared to what I would consider the main competition to the MLR338... the Savage 110BA (also the 111LRH and 110FCP) which uses a redesigned action with beefier bolt head, luggs and the savage large diameter barrel shank / action.....

111 Long Range Hunter, pick one up for less than 2k;

and the 110BA that Assistant Commissioner Steve Fontana famously described the as "some sort of Automatic......I dont think its a machine gun...";

By all means, if you're a Rem guy/girls, go the MLR, else, consider the alternatives...

That 111 Long Range Hunter is certainly eye catching.
