The sks was fun to shoot with but it was far from accurate, although a skk with a 30 shot clip and cheep as chips ex army ammo you were guaranteed to hit something..

I wonder if the new ones shoot any better, I might never know... thanks John Howard.

I'm no Samozaryadnyj Karabin sistemy Simonova expert, but isnt the mag equipped version the SKK, unless this is a converted SKS....

anyhoo, The Russians can own an SKS, and now (as of last week) they can even carry them for self defence!!

M16/M4 with a different gas system.....

naaaaaaaaah.

If our military goes back to a 30 cal I'd like to see a return to the SLR, why not, at least the tallywackers would know we're serious should we return to the sand pit...

No I havent, but if we dumped the Steyr, and returned to a real rifle, what would you suggest, maybe an STG43?? :D :D maybe if the Kurz wasnt an intermediate round....

AR10? I dont think colt would license for production here, or was it the cost to license that prevented the Aussie/Lithgow M16????

They only did the contract with Steyr F88 2 years ago or so didn't they?

I suspect they must be locked into that for at least a few more years.

would brass bring prices down for target shooters but the realty is the '47 case may not feed as well through a semi/auto as a .260 case due to the sharp shoulder angle

I did a Google on sks, it said they were known to slam fire and empty the clip in a un controlled fassion  that's a handy feature.

The original assault rifle.....

Had things panned out differently - we would know 8x33 instead of 7.62x39....

Nice pics, a young Chronos perhaps  :D ;)
