Post by Muddy1967 » 08 Oct 2013, 8:24 pm

Hi Guys,
Just purchased my first gun, its second hand Remington BDL .222 HB with a Vortex Viper vx3 6.5 x 20 scope. Wahoo
Ok any thoughts and opinions? (be nice)
I am looking at a .22 for plinking and range work.
Thanks for reading.

BDL is a fine rifle.

20x will do you for some solid distance at the range too.

C'mon... .222 will do plenty for plinking.

Add a big bore to the collection ;)
What is this "too many rifles" you speak of?

Love the Remington 700.

I've recently got a XCR Tactical Long Range in .300 win mag.

Get one too :P

Welcome Muddy.

Nothing wrong with a Rem 700.

Wouldn't hurt to add something with a bit more puff to you're collection, but everyone needs a rimfire rifle ;)

What range work are you looking to do with the .22? Anything serious or just for fun?

I live in S.E. Melbourne and I am looking for a good range to shoot at.
I will be joining SSAA and shoot at Springvale, but Lang LAng in only 30 mins down the road so I could do some longer rage stuff there.
Primarily my focus is hunting (foxes and rabbits, deer in the future when i get a .308) but range work sounds fun.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You can only shoot rimfire at Springvale if I recall correctly, right? No centre fire?

Have you been to the SSAA range at Little River? It's about 50 minute drive from you, but is really the best range in the area.

500m shooting, you can shoot whatever calibre you want and it's open all week. $15 for a visit for SSAA members. Set up paper targets or you can put up metal targets at 100m+ if you want some *plink* *plink*.

If I remember rightly the problem with Lang Lang is that they're only open Saturdays and only for event shooting. You have to be sighted in before going and can't just go to have a plink, or spend a few hours load testing or anything like that.
